I don't think it needs to be black. The clear crystals are really neutral.
Do you have any pictures of this area and the lounge so we can see if the chandelier is the right way to go?

The house is still under construction. We are at lock up stage and meeting with the electrician and plumber tomorrow. Electrician asked what is going in the void as will be trickier than usual to wire due to roof line. I imagine the weight of the fitting will come into consideration too. cost of installation is included in the build. I am trying to purchase some of the light fittings while I still have the money!

Just make sure they have put some extra timber there to support a chandelier. The hard part is getting up to actually wire it in. I could barely look as my father (electrician) was up the ladder about 6 m trying to get the chandelier up on the hook.
