Question Thoughts on how to go about this

Hi everyone, I am in the process of recovering two huge drum lampshades. 80cm high x 3 metre Cir***ference. I have attached a photo so you understand what I am having trouble with. The Silver Glitter on the inside is a separate piece to the Fabric covered adhesive plastic sheet on the outside. I took the inside piece out, then carefully removed outside so I could use as template for new fabric. Cut new fabric. Removed old fabric from Plastic Sheet used spray adhesive to place new fabric in place. All good so far happy with progress. The tricky bit has been when I used pegs and got one side all lined up perfectly and glued it down when I turned it upside down to repeat the gluing process the inside and outside sheets don't line up. I am thinking it is because I haven't pushed the inside sheet in far enough so it has put it out of alignment on the other side. Any thoughts on how to get it even. I have since taken the side off that was glued already so have to fix it all to frame again.

Hi Tinan1969 what a great project. I'm afraid I got lost on what you meant by this last part. Can you try to explain it again? Or show us a photo of what is happening? Love to be able to try and help you.

Hi Tinan1969 and welcome to the forum ... sounds intriguing ... you've very brave/clever to recover a lamp shape.

I'd love to hear/see how it goes ... & hopefully learn something along the way!

Hi Julie. Sorry it did sound a bit confusing. I try and explain clearer. There are two separate pieces. The inside Glitter Piece and the outside Fabric Piece. Both pieces have a plastic lining. Due to the Plastic Lining there is only a top frame and a bottom frame. When I was ready to attach the pieces to the frame I used pegs to line up both pieces to the frame. Once it was all done I glued that side on. When I turned the shade upside down to glue the other side the two lined pieces did not line up perfectly and got slightly worse as it went around the frame. The way the shade is made you glue the fabric lined piece onto frame and the glitter lined piece just stays in place. I think when I was glueing the glitter lined piece has moved slightly and when I have turned it over to do other side because of the movement in the glitter the two pieces no longer line up. The Glitter lining is higher than the fabric lining and therefore noticeable if I was to glue it. I hope this helps as I am at work and don't have a picture with me as I was going to do more work on it when I go home.

I have 2 suggestions but I am not sure if they will work.
Plan A. Can you peg the top and bottom in to position before gluing?
Plan B. Can you glue a little bit a the top and then switch to the bottom, then back to the top and so on. So you are keeping them both lined up.
Would either of these work?

Given the size of it it is hard to peg both ends together at once although I will try going back and forth from top to bottom. I also messaged my husband and asked if can find me anything at home to use so I could lay it down and roll it on that way. I just need to keep the two rings in place while I do it. No doubt hubby is fossicking in his garage. I drive him grazy with my craft and decorating things. i will let you know how I go and thank you for your suggestions. Going from top to bottom and back sounds like a winner.

I think you are on the right track by trying to do both ends at the same time. Good luck. Be sure to tell us how you go.
