We are thinking of adding downlights in both the bulkhead and underneath the overhead cabinets. Do you think this would be too much? Or should we just choose one or the other?

I think I would have downlights just under the overheads. If you have to chose one make this the choice. So your bulkheads are deeper than your overheads?

With the microwave why don't you have an integrated microwave? It will look much more streamline. Yes you can place the microwave above the oven. You need to consider 2 things: The height should be low enough that you can see into the dish in the microwave (I don't know if you are short like me). And also will you be using the oven and the microwave often together. Is it better to have them separate so someone can be checking the oven and someone else using the microwave.

With the rangehood - if you do the 4 cabinets ask the cabinetmaker to box in the ducting for the rangehood. So when you open the 2 middle doors above only part of the cabinet will be available for storage. With the rest of the space you will only see a melamine box.
Are your overhead cabinet doors solid or glass?

Thanks J-A. I was thinking that too, but you know Mr Thisisme and his excessive ways

Yes, the bulkheads are deeper than our overheads, but same depth as the fridge and oven tower cabinets.

I'm 169cm, what is the ideal height for an oven? I guess I need to work backwards though, starting from the microwave height, don't I?

All our overhead cabinet doors are solid.

Does it matter if the stainless steel slide out bit doesn't line up with the cabinets?

Is 830mm a good width for the drawers underneath the overhead cabinets?
What about 900mm for the ones on the island?

Is it best to have the top drawer thinnish and the other two the same thickness? What is the recommended thickness for those?

If you have both sets of lights just have them on different switches - so you can have either set of lights on and not have to have both on at the same time.

The shelf my microwave rests on is level with my collarbone. So I can see into my microwave clearly. So work out that height and yes- work down from there.

Is the hotplate 900mm wide?

Thanks for that. I will work down from my collarbone
The cooktop will be 900mm.

With the downlights in the bulkhead, we would definetly have them on a separate switch, but would it look tacky and over the top having them there with downlights in the kitchen ceiling already there? Luke I dint see them being used (but mr thisisme clearly does)
