Default Things To Do in Sydney

What are your favourite things to do in Sydney?
I have a free day to spend with Mr18 in Sydney on Friday. Then I have Saturday afternoon with just DH and myself. On Saturday afternoon I will need to do something lots of fun and very distracting. My plan to cope with Mr18 leaving home is to distract myself with lots of fun every day for at least a week after he has left. If I am out having fun then I won't be sitting home crying for him.
So what are some great things to do in Sydney?

You could go to high tea on saturday! I like the one at the stamford at circular quay but there are others around too.

Otherwise you could do a harbour tour that goes through the history of each of the sites, if you love your wine there are some fantastic new wine bars and restaurants that have opened in and around town too.

Otherwise maybe see which shows or musicals are on ....

and then there is always shopping ....

As for friday - jetboat blast around the harbour! (you might not like that as much as him haha)

I think they're all great ideas, LDH! What do you think, JA? Would Mr18 love the jetboat blast? It sounds awesome!

Hi Julie-Ann,

The rocks markets are a great place to start. Great coffee, cute little shops and lovely old cobblestone walkways with great views. They are on every friday, sat and sunday. Another idea is to buy an unlimited ferry pass and ride the ferries and enjoy the harbour!! and if all else fails shop until you drop in the heart of the CBD.

Rofl me on a jet boat. I get so sea sick I can't even go on the boat to Rottnest just off Perth. I will suggest it to Mr18 for when he is with friends.
So many great ideas for the rest of the time - thanks
Mr18 has asked to go to sports stores to look at soccer boots. He also loves the idea of the chocolatier.
LDH the high tea sounds great and the wine bars. Any bars that you would suggest?
Love The Rocks and markets - thanks DD

Have you done the harbour bridge climb J.A ? It is a fantastic experience and great fun. I am not a fan of heights but I felt fine with this and it was amazing !! Its not cheap at around $200 a ticket but you could either do it with Mr18 or on the Sat with your DH. They have a website where you can see if time slots are still available.
On the Saturday you could take a walk through the botanical gardens with your DH. Could be quite romantic now that you will be a couple again without Mr 18 living at home. There are a couple of little restaurants in the gardens where you could have lunch. Then maybe head over to the Lindt cafe in Martin place for dessert

You Sydneysiders are wayyyy too adventurous for me lol. I can't believe you climbed the bridge Clare1. I would never be able to do that. Of course my excuse is that it is going to rain the whole time we are in Sydney - that's a good excuse right?
The walk in the gardens sounds wonderful Clare1. I didn't realise there were restaurants in the middle. It sounds very romantic.
So many good ideas that I amy have to come back for a longer visit.

How are you Clare1? How are the wedding and house plans progressing? Do tell us all about both. I love going to weddings.

Also if it says that it is going to be 22c and raining when we are in Sydney - is that cold or humid?

The bridge climb is no where near as frightening as it looks. I absolutely hate heights or anything that is tooooo scary but the bridge climb is really easy and fun. You have a preparation lesson before hand and you are attached to a railing the whole time with a group leader. It really just feels like climbing stairs a bit at a time. If I can do it anyone can. You would looooove it !!!
The restaurant in the Botanical Gardens is called Botanical Gardens Restaurant and the other one is Pavillion in the Park.

I haven't posted for a while as have been busy with my daughters wedding plans, went on holiday to Bali, as well as the building of the house. ( needed the holiday in the middle of it all to save my sanity). We haven't started on the actual house yet as had problems once we looked at heights etc and realized that we would have to put in another application to council for approval for our retaining walls.

We are getting very excited about the wedding and we have another fitting for the wedding dress this weekend which I am looking forward to. So many things to think about but we are hoping it will be a beautiful day for her. Very emotional for my DH as well as for me and we will have to try to keep it together and not both become a blubbering mess on the day !!! Our other daughter arrives from London in a couple of weeks as she is matron of honor so we are also all looking forward to her coming home for 3 weeks.

I must admit the costs for anything to do with a wedding has a number of zeros after it !! In some ways I think it will be better to get the wedding out the way before we start the house !!
