Sunday April 17th
I have no idea of what to cook for dinner. Any ideas of something dead simple and takes no time at all?
What are you having for dinner?

I've been doing my bookkeeping all day and DH has been finishing a big garden kerb job so for us I think it will be takeaway, just don't know what.

We are probably going to have something very very light or nothing at all. I have been outside (beautiful sunny day here in Melb) cleaning stock most of the day. DH took the two youngest for a bike ride and a kick of the footy. They got home around 3pm and then made Poffertjers so no-one is hungry at the moment. Maybe some fruit and ice cream and then an early night

I love Poffertjes ... and should make some this week during the holidays (whilst I'm on leave) as the kids love them too. I used to sell them with a girlfriend at the Hawthorn and Brighton Craft Markets about 12 years ago.
Do you make the traditional Dutch recipe (with yeast?) or with SR flour?? The reason I ask is I was born in Holland and whenever I made them for my parents it would be the traditional method (takes longer) but usually just now make them with SR flour.
Asd far as dinner tonight goes - it will be some traditonal (Dutch) chicken noodle soup that I made with crusty oven baked bread .... a pretty simple meals as DH and I have been busy for most of the day pulling built in cupboards out of the study and family room ( hoping the builders will be back soon to rip out the walls!!)

We'll be having leftovers, after a big lamb roast at lunchtime. It was an Easter celebration with close friends, so noone is very hungry here this evening.
What about toasties, JA? They've been very popular here lately, as we've been quite busy. Or, scrambled eggs with ham, mushrooms, tomato and wilted spinach leaves, on toast?

I love them too 4sterftg Our little 4yo neighbour went to the park with my lot and came back for some. He said it was the best food he has had in whole life I discovered them about 17 years ago at a market in Brisbane near where we used to live, we'd always find a reason to go to the market on a sunday so we could have them. Kids were so excited when I bought my own pan.
I use S.R flour. I got two recipes with my pan - authentic Dutch one and then the cheat one, 450g self raising flour, 950ml milk, 3 eggs, 5ml vanilla essence and half a teaspoon of salt.
Soup sounds yum, we had Chicken, Corn and Noodle soup last Sunday night.
Love toasties too dmplus3

All your ideas sound so yummy that they are making me hungry .
Elements talk about 2 extremes - a casserole or a salad .
Well I found the perfect answer - DH is cooking . He is cooking fettucine with prosciutto, asparagus and spinach (I insisted they need more than 1 vegetable ). He is making it because he knows if I make it it will be less fattening and less tasty.
TTD and 4sterftg we love poffertjes. We lived in Antwerp for 4 years and regularly went to Holland. And my favourite foods were poffertjes for afternoon tea and a good satay for dinner. Can you pop the recipes under the desserts forum sometime? I have a pan but never liked any of the recipes we have tried.
Where were you born 4sterftg? Mr17 was born in Belgium - which explains his love of chocolates, waffles and frites . Thank goodness he hasn't taken to the Belgian beer which is very high in alcohol.

I was born in Hilversum (about 30kim east of Amsterdam). I'm the second youngest of 6 kids and my parents immigrated with 6 children ranging from 18mths to 13 years in 1970 by boat (6 weeks). I love lots of the traditional Dutch food. Croquettes, Ollie Bollen, Appleflappen, Pea soup, Rollmops, herring, etc. Have even converted DH and the kids (to some extent).
I'm heading back (my first ever trip 'home') in July with my Mum. My father passed away suddenly in 2009 and Mum hasn't been back since then .. we'll be celebrating her 77th birthday in Holland.

Oh 4sterftg recipes please
The main reason I go to the farmers market is to get some of the poffertjes, well that's after the dog treats, anzac biscuits and veg.
So I am going to be the very boring one here tonight, we are having KFC, partly because DS needs some batteries for his headset so of course he wanted something that wasn't delivered. I agreed as I can eat and work at the same time.
