Default Starting a Home Staging Profession

A few of our members have expressed an interest in starting their own Home Staging business. So I thought I would find out a little more about what a Home Stager does exactly. I found this article that I hope is useful to you.

If you desire to pursue a home staging career, there are many things that you need to bear in mind. Home staging includes three primary aspects that must be mastered in order for the job to be done effectively. As many home stagers are paid per hour for work, it is critical that anyone looking for a home staging career be able to work with haste as well as with precision and an attention for fine detail.

The first aspect of home staging that should be perfected for a successful career is interior planning. Interior design is the art of transforming a home into a sophisticated liveable space which a buyer imagine having themselves residing in. When home staging, the interior design aspect requires rearranging furniture, making use of accessories already in the seller's possession, and removing unwanted aspects like photography and travel mementos. A home staging specialist can quickly go through all the rooms of a home and determine the best way to make use of the components already present within a room. If changes are needed, like paint or rental of furniture and add-ons, the home staging professional is able to come up with excellent ideas which can be accomplished on a tight budget.

The second aspect of a home staging profession is landscaping. An excellent stager is able to see a property from the curb and make suggestions on how to improve entrance charm. In extreme cases, home staging specialists will do small landscaping work instead of just giving suggestions if the situation warrants.

The final aspect of a home staging career is the ability to quickly and thoroughly clean up. If hired to do a complete home staging project from beginning to end, the stager will clean in the essential places and ensure that the home is completely ready for display. This may involve getting on hand sand knees to clean in the difficult to reach places, and also moving furniture so that rugs and carpeting can be fully cleaned. An excellent home stager will make sure that there is no objectionable discoveries by buyers. This is extremely important to maintain the good impressions granted by a nicely laid out exterior and interior.

If you desire to take up a home staging career, accreditation and training is strongly suggested. Professional companies will often hire new stagers who have taken the time and made the efforts to master the job through courses, college and schooling. New home staging professions are usually added to a group of stagers so that they can learn the basics without sacrificing quality
.

Can you add any other tasks you think a Home Stager may have to do?

Thank you Julie-Anne - great article, can I also mention, to be a good home stager is to have a good supply of tradesman and handy man etc to out source the cleaning and maintenance, as not everyone wants to scrub floors, or is physically able to .

This way the role is more in the liaising to get everything done in a quick turn around

Totally agree Jules63. I'm not into scrubbing other people's floors - I barely have time to do my own.

Hi Julie ANnn! How are you? That's a great story! Brilliant idea to be a home stager, I think there would be a huge demand for it...and if they get the home SOLD that's fantastic. I would even get a Home Stager in to make my home look beautiful, and not to sellbut to have it looking like a million dollars,,and know that is does look great! How lovely would that be when my friends come over for cuppas and cake on Monday, they would think WOW. CATH is a Legend! How did she do it..and I would say," oh itwas nothing lol.

Lol you are so funny Cath. You could always pay someone like Katrina to come in and do a little home staging for you. I'm sure she won't tell anyone in Wagga that she helped.

As we saw in the example last week of the Surrey Hills home sold without the prior owner's decor......a loss of 155,000 may have been due to the lack of complete home styling............I am not good at providing links so if someone wants to link that thread you can see the two diff egs of for sale pics for this house and see which one is more inviting............

I would get a property stylist in to spruce up my house in a jiffy.....I feel confident in my design decisions for the most part but often look at my placement of things and feel like there needs to be more......

I watched Tori Spelling's reality show last night and she went to visit her baby nurse's home in Atlanta which she and the "Guncles" added colour and accessories to in one day............just turns a house into a home really...

Good point about that house in Surrey Hills Rosierose. This was the thread where you can see the difference in the styling of the home.
