Default Skirting and Architraves

I have been busily trying to get a good price on the 180/190 skirts and 92 archs for "Rome" and am horrified that this stuff is super exxy.............

Almost $10 lineal meter for War Service/Edwardian/Lambs Tongue (which I am told is the Cal Bung style).............

Has anyone else in Vic found a cheap company for these mouldings?

Rosie check out the auction houses. Some of the ones here get supplies of timber frequently. They may get skirting too.

Rosie, we have a bungalow (late 1930s) and we just have half splay architraves and skirting:

I'm sure the fancier and higher they are, the more expensive they get.

Are you being quoted for finger joined pine or MDF?

What sort of doors are you having? Do they have moulding or square routed like Shaker style?

Thanks for your replies..............

I have been checking auctions J-A but very little or not the amounts we want available.

Cal bungs originally had high skirting but they weren't ornate either...........still around $8-$10 per mt for both the finger joined pine and MDF.
There is a builders range that has the half splayed which is a good option thanks SCG (I mean Di) it would go ok with the doors which have 5 horizontal panels and are square routed with no moulding...........( And OMG just got the door quote.......hyperventilating....may as well chuck in the skirts & arch too.............)
Seriously though the Cal Bung originally had high skirts that were about 190m high and 92 for Archs.........but they had no cornices so you can save money there I guess and just square set them. It is also bc we have 870 wide doors that you need bigger skirts to ground the doors a bit........

I know I will need to bite the bullet and buy them but at least I am shopping around. All the Timber suppliers vary in their mark up of the products and can vary by as much as $2 per lineal meter so it pays to shop around.

Is your hubby installing those? Or are you getting a carpenter to do it?
Our carpenter has great contacts/prices and is organising our skirtings, frames and achitraves.

Thanks Rosie

Weve decided to go with the same one as Di. 92mm skirtings and 64mm archirtaves.
