Default Rachel's new bedroom makeover

Rachel has just bought some new bedroom furniture and is looking for some ideas.
I am posting this under a new thread for her so we can be sure you all get to see it.
So this is what Rachel posted so far when we discussing my new quilt cover (that my DH has no idea about yet)

"Hi Julie-Ann, I really like the one Milena posted. It looks perfect!
Our new bedroom furniture and mattress just arrived yesterday (bed and sides are solid Marri, latex mattress) and I also have my eye out for new linen to freshen up the room.
Our previous furniture was very light and my favourite quilt cover was a rich chocolate brown.
The Marri is lovely and veiny with some almost cherry colours in it.

Suggestions are welcome!"

And next post

"The bed is solid and the guy from the shop assembled the slats for us
I'll try and take a photo - but excuse the current linen. The argument in this house is doona or no doona.
Husband says he can't sleep with a doona in this weather and I can never sleep without one. Current solution is a single bed doona on my side only!

About the room:
Small, but high ceilings. Walk in robe, the only furniture is the bed, bedside tables and my sewing cabinet (and a wicker laundry basket). The carpet is cream wool and the walls are blue-green. The wall along the right side of the bed is almost entirely window."

So any ideas for Rachel?

Hi Rachel,

As far as you looking for linen what sort of pattern or design do you like? Do you like flower patterns, plain, stripes, modern or traditional? Do you want something that is bright and cheerful or dark and moody?
Let us know your thoughts and we will see what ideas people will come up with

Thanks Milena

As a general rule I like plains (with great textures). Thick cotton accented with silk or a wool throw, etc.

I don't like overly flouncy designs or stuff that is too out there!

In terms of colours I tend to stick to neutrals but am open to something different this time.

I like a fresh, clean look.

Hi Rachel
I love the furniture. It's stunning.
The furniture says nature and forests to me.
How do you and your DH feel about green tones? I am thinking of soft, light to medium greens so as to work with the cream carpet.
But I know people can have very strong opinions on green.
Do you have any art that you want to put in the room?

We have the same problem that 1 of us wants the quilt and the other not. So DH pulls it over him & I kick it to the bottom.

Thinking about your room today - personally I think the bed is a lovely solid, stong piece of furniture. So I would go for some colour rather than something light or pale. Actually I liked the chocolate but I did find some others that might be in the right direction.
Tell us if I am on the right path. If not let me know - I won't be offended.

I like all of those Julie-Ann!

I like the coffee/pebble ones best I think.

Right now we have a big panoramic framed photo of Broome (Roebuck Bay) above the bed. It has deep oranges and blues in it.

What a coincidence our last holiday was to Broome and we stayed near Roebuck Bay.

The pebble quilt comes from here and the coffee quilt from here .

Adairs have some gorgeous throws in a variety of textures that would look good on the end of the bed. And a couple of lovely cushions in different textures. Maybe add some lamps. Alti lighting in Claremont have some gorgeous and different lampshades.

Let me know if there is anything else we can help with

Love your furniture, its beautiful.....I have always liked how Marri gives off all the different tones....
I was the same as Julie-Anne....I instantly thought blues and greens as a fresh feel to your room with whites and browns....
I actually instantly thought of a duck egg blue, brown and white cover that I have seen.....I just don't know where......These are the colourings but not the quilt I saw but this gives you the feeling anyway.

I love those colours and I actually like the quilt in the picture.
I have seen that recently. It's either at Bedshed, Fourtywinks or Harvey Norman- sorry for the long list of shops but I get around.
