Default Pre Teen boys room

We're moving my nearly 12 year old sons room and he wants it to be 'cool' (read I want my mates to die of jealousy ). I like a Hamptons/Vintage look and he's fairly ok with that although the things he's showed me have been quite funky and modern. He desparately wanted a loft bed (to give you an idea of the direction he was taking) but with our ceiling height it wont work.

The furniture he currently has is bed/side table in a brown antique colour stain and I've bought a large wardrobe off ebay which I can either re-stain or paint.

Any ideas or places to find some images for ideas very much appreciated.

Kathy

Pinterest or Houzz have inspiation pictures.....pottery barn teen....google image..........ikea

Basically I would collect everything he loves and must keep in the room and see if there is a theme or pattern...add in some favourite colors and you may have come up with your "mood board" then look at your layout as in what goes where put it together and you have a room...

Sounds easy???

Hi Tomeag does your son have any particular interests and colours that he likes? I too love the Hamptons style and have decorated my home this way, except my son's bedroom. I am a fan of letting kids decorate their rooms (with guidance of course). So my son's bedroom is all about Chelsea Football club as he is passionate about soccer. He supports many teams but I asked him to choose a team that had nice colours. Roma's burgundy and yellow colours were not a good choice. I'm also not sure that teenage boys would find our Hamptons look cool. But I found some pictures that are boys bedrooms that work with the Hamptons style. Maybe show these to your son and see what he thinks.
My DS when around that age was taken by his Nanna to see the Endeavour replica ship. Nanna asked him what he thought of the ship. DS said - I don't like old, antique things except you Nanna.

Thanks guys Julie-Ann that last pic is pretty much exactly the colours that will be in the room based on its current wall colour and the bedding/curtains I already have in his room but will transfer to the new room so I'm going to show him that and see what his reaction is.

I'm pretty sure he'd make a similiar comment re antiques although I think he thinks I'm the antique LOL He likes the blues and reds and yesterday my husband came home with a huge office desk for him (its a brand new reject from our offices) so I'm hoping that brings in the cool factor a bit.

I think those colours with dark stained furniture look great. To give it that Hamptons look you can add elements of the beach or America. I think if you put a TV or Playstation in the room he wouldn't care what the decor looked like. I know that was always my son's dream.
