Smile Our new home

Well here goes...
I am very excited to be starting my very own building thread!
Progress so far:
18th April 2011 - contract signed and deposit paid on house and land package in The Gateway, Lilydale
19th June 2011 - final plans received
7th July 2011 - external colours chosen (I think!)
Bricks: Boral - Jarrah
Roof: Monier Elabana - Barramundi concrete tiles or
Wunderlich Modern - French Charcoal terracotta tiles (aparently Wunderlich have a promotion on at the moment with terracotta tiles not much dearer than concrete - if we can get that deal we will go with the terracotta)
Gutter: Monument (dark grey)
Downpipes: Monument
Fascia: either Paperbark or Monument (probably Monument)
Aluminium Windows and doors: Paperbark
A word of advice, once you have chosen your colours DON'T keep looking!
We thought we had it all worked out…then I saw the Burgundy terracotta tiles...
Now I am leaning toward Burgundy tiles with Cream gutter, fascia and downpipes. Not sure if we could still go with the Paperbark windows etc (I am not keen on Cream windows). Trouble is that I haven't seen the combination in reality (apart from the mock-up I did on the computer with scanned samples). More driving around looking at houses this weekend!
I have attached the mock-up I did. The outer cream colour is from the window company site and the middle cream is from the Colourbond site.
Any ideas/comments would be gratefully accepted.
Bec

I like the dark tiles Angel62. I think it is a modern fresh look. The other combination reminds me a little of what was popular in the late 80-90's.
But I know it is such a hard decision. My advice in this case is copy something you see. It is so hard to get it right and expensive to alter.

Go for the dark charcoal/grey roof tiles. I think you will find the burgundy will just make the house too red. Darker looks great with Jarrah as you know....I have it

There are a few Jarrah houses with cream around me. I'll try and get some photos tomorrow for you.

Dune looks good too.

You are a star! Are there any with the burgundy roof? I am nearly convinced to go with the charcoal but would really like to see the other. We are intending to head over there on Saturday. My dearly beloved has decided that he needs to see the Austral bricks in Thomastown!
An update on our progress - the building permit has been approved! Now we have received an Asset Protection Permit application from the council. Has anyone else had to pay this? I thought it would be the builders responsibility - same as all other permits.

Yes we had to when we relocated a house on to our rural land. Funny actually as there were no assets - dirt road, no crossover. I argued the cost with the council but as usual lost out. Plus I think they remembered that our builder threatened to go to ACA & TDT if our planning permit wasn't approved forthwith after waiting 18mths.

Hello Angel,

It is not easy to choose colours for roof tiles but I can tell you from our experience that the Terracotta shingle roof tiles look awesome in a shingle profile and in the dark charcoal. We replaced our roof and we were going to replace with what was there but in brown and in the French profile. It was suggested we go for the shingle look as many of the homes around us have slate and this fitted better in the neighbourhood.

Wunderlich also has similar - they're called Nullarbor and the colour is Granite from my Google search - if they are available to you. They suit modern and traditional homes.

We have Boral terracotta ones in Eclipse - it's almost black but throws brown/purple sometimes and our bricks are mostly browns with some red. They're more matt not super glossy. Here are some pics (sorry they're progress shots):

Went for a drive to Mernda this morning via the 'Austral' brick display in Thomastown...turned out to be a Boral display centre? Bit of a concern as we were given the address by our builder! I think he needs to update his list a bit! Still, we came home with 3 Jarrah bricks. Very exciting!
Back to the subject...as I was saying...we went for a drive to Mernda this morning to check out colours...decision made...
Bricks: Boral Jarrah
Roof: Monier charcoal colour (still waiting to hear whether they will be terracotta or concrete)
Gutter: Colourbond Monument
Fascia: Paperbark
Downpipes: Monument
Windows and doors: Paperbark
Both of us were very impressed with Mernda. It is a beautiful estate.
