Thanks. I just look larger than I actually am. I dont have much of a waist either, so that doesnt help.
Mum was always on a diet and she taught me to educate myself as to the 'value' of food, so I've always known that chocolate bars, fruit juices, sodas etc are the equivilent calorie wise to my typical lunch. I try to keep my carb intake to no more than 5 serves (typically 4), so I know to only eat 1/2 a cup or rice or pasta at a time, that a bread roll is 2 serves.
I am always reading the nutritional information on things and just make small changes, e.g. if I go to mc donalds, ill eat a cheeseburger and always share a small fries with someone, or ill buy a sundae if that is what I really want to eat. If I order a ceaser salad, I know very well what I am eating and that it is not a 'healthy salad'
I dont get caught up in food taboos, like cake is a desert and can only be eaten as such, and the definition of 'a propper' meal. If I want cake, I will have cake for lunch and make sure I have plenty of protein and veg in other meals that day.
I dont get obsessed about low fat either because it generally means that more sugar and salt has been added, which in my opinion is worse for you as it messes around with your blood sugar. I dont cook with a lot of fat and oil as I cant tollerate it, but Im not scared of it. If you have ever met a bodybuilder you will notice that they have a high protein, moderate fat, low carb diet. They eat more fat than carbs because it is slower to burn and doesnt cause unwanted spikes in blood sugar (the food science for bodybuilding is quite interesting)
(Watching Jamie oliver dress a salad with a 'little' olive oil makes my guts grumble)
Nuts are my biggest downfall, especially peanut butter.
