My sons room, designed by a 9 year old.

My son is now 10, but when he was 9 all he wanted for his birthday was a new room. SO for his bday we bought him tins of paint in his chosen colours...should have seen his face, it was priceless... LOL.

He pretty much chose everything. We did it all on a budget. Originally his room was all footy stuff, which he sold off to pay for his "surfy" room. Its simple and such a nice place to hang out in.

BEFORE...imagine grotty grey walls with marks everywhere, a rotted timber window and well yeah, an UGLY cold room, pics don't show this.
We even painted his footy bookcase to match his new look.

I like my kids having rooms they decorate. It is their space and allows them to explore who they are...wish my parents have let me do this, might make life easier for me now PMSL.

He has done a great job. Very impressive.
I love the wall colour- a perfect choice for the theme.
I agree with you that it is great to let kids express themselves in decorating their bedroom. We have always done the same too

I think he did well too. Its simple enough if he wants a basic teen room we can manage it. He bought all his accessories from a trip to QLD so they mean something to him.
He is not your average 10 yr old, with a few neuro-psychological health issues, so for him this room is pretty special for him, and me

Can not wait till he has the floor boards, and the tv unit gone in our planned sunroom so he can have a KS bed and desk....fun ikea shoppping

With the possessions actually meaning something to him he is more likely to care for them. He might even keep his room tidy.
Pity this hasn't worked with my Mr16

Well done on letting DS decorate his own room.....I am a little to OCD to let that happen at this stage.....actually given my ds is only 2 I suppose thats fair Your son must have been rapt with his parents giving him this responsibility. Well done.

Wow what a difference! I think it looks great and well done to your DS for picking out great colours. I think it's important for kids to have a say in their rooms afterall it is their space and somewhere where they can chill out, play with friends, read etc. It really is the only place they do have a say!

When we moved we told the kids they could have whatever they liked in their rooms (Mum tries to give a bit of guidance ) my then 6yo is very head strong and all she wanted was a pink room. I took her to the paint shop and she picked out two pinks and wouldn't budge on them I painted her room and she loved it, thanked us for weeks and weeks for doing it. Her Dad and I needed our sunnies for the first few weeks but I'm use to it now. She even made a sign for the door saying "Welcome to the Pink Plarza" yes that is Plaza with an R in it

I hope your son is enjoying his new room and yes hope he keeps it clean for his Mum!!

My son was rather chuffed with himself when he saw all the comments.

I am a bit OCD too so whilst he did decorate it i did steer him towards a suitable theme/look. IF he had HIS way 100% everything would have been black & orange

That looks great. Your a very cool Mum for letting him choose the theme even if you did give him a bump in the right direction.
