Default My daughters bedroom - with pics!

Here are some photos of my daughters bedroom that was part of the rebuild/renovation that we recently completed. She's 3 [4 in april] and this is the 1st time she's had her own bedroom. Before that she was in with DH & I.

Some questions - we had to put these windows in [they are 2nd hand], not my cup of tea but some things had to be compromised on. I now need some advice on curtains. What would you hang?

2nd - I have the rocking chair that I recused and is awaiting a top coat from DH [its undercoated only], I'm wanting to put a seat on it and have purchased the foam and material and have had a piece of board cut but I have no idea how to attach it all. Crafty I am not.

Hi, Your daughters room is looking gorgeous. I love the quilt cover.
I would put white sheers on the windows with a simple roller blind for night time.

That quilt cover is so gorgeous, it looks really cute!

As for the windows, what is it that you don't like about them? If you were wanting to cover them up, but still let light in, you could just run with white venetians (50 or 63mm) rather than curtains. If you wanted to add curtains over the top, you could get a nice bright pink (Curtain Wonderland) and just put one curtain on each window with tie backs to the left and right respectively, so that it looks like one large window area.

As for the chair - I have no idea!! Staple gun perhaps?

Yes I too thought of sheers but how would you recommend I hang them? Would the rod be attached to the top architrave or would you hang it just above?

Since they are so narrow I dont think you would be able to pull the curtain across to allow fresh air in would you unless you had the rod that bit longer and when they were pulled back they would siton the outside architrave - oh dear, does that make any sense at all?

Actually it makes perfect sense Mummachicka.
If you put a blind behind the sheers I wouldn't put it in the recess but in front of the window. That will prevent light peeking through the sides of the blind. Also if it is a roller blind set it up so it pulls down at the back not the front of the roller. It keeps more light out. Little ones wake early enough without sunlight helping. I love the sheers or pink drapes idea.
I am so proud of you tackling the chair. Is this your 1st craft project?
So this is what you do:
Make sure the foam is cut to the size of the board.
Use something like liquid nails to glue the foam to the board for the seat.
Buy some wadding from Spotlight. You need enough to cover the foam and wrap under the board.
Wrap the wadding over the foam and around the edges of the board. Glue the wadding underneath the board. Cut away any excess in corners.
Position your fabric. Consider any pattern when positioning. Use a staple gun (about $25 from Bunnings). Put 1 staple in the centre of each of the 4 sides. If you make a mistake the staples are easy to remove with a normal butter knife. If happy continue to add all the staples but leave the corners - also don't staple too close to the corners at this stage.
The corners are the most difficult part. You can try to do a mitred corner like a hospital bed corner. Or you can spread out the gathers evenly on the corner. It is really about fiddling to get it to what you want. When you are happy staple the corners. Then cut away excess material to the board.
The board should be able to be attached to the seat as it was originally.

I hope this helps.

Since you are wrapping the foam in fabric you can also use spray glue (available from Bunnings and Spotlight) to stick it down as well - that's all I used when I upholstered my headboard
