Moving Costs

With so many of us planning moves or just dreaming about them in the future I thought this article could be very helpful to us.

Moving is not an inexpensive endeavor. Whatever your goals are - however far you are going - there are going to be a variety of different expenses that you may not even consider before you start planning your move. For that reason, it's a good idea to be sure that however you plan to move, you're properly prepared for the total cost. In particular, here are some things to consider when reviewing the contract given to you by your moving company.

*Metropolitan Transit Surcharges - There is often a surcharge if you are moving from or to a major metropolitan city. Driving in the city, shuttling between larger trucks and your home, and any tolls associated with the city are all considered here.

*Heavy Items - If you are moving things like appliances, pianos, or vehicles, consider extra charges that might come in for their weight.

*Specialists - Many things require specialists, such as appliances, specialty furniture, pianos and more.

*Further Distance - If your movers must travel extra distances such as up long stairs, through elevators, and across busy streets, there will often be additional costs to consider.

Other Hidden Sources of Expense

Don't think that the moving contract is the end all of your moving costs either. You may also need to pay for some other expenses to ensure a safe move.

*Insurance - Your auto policy is likely not going to cover if you rent a truck to drive yourself. So, you will need to pay whatever the required insurance premium is by that truck rental company.

*Insurance Riders - Your possessions are generally not fully covered by your home owner's insurance. This can present a major problem if you're not careful about how you plan your move. Riders will need to be purchased to cover the difference.

*Truck Repairs and Gas - If you're traveling far and are moving yourself, the truck you rent may end up needing repairs and will always need fuel. These are fees you must take into consideration.

*Home Damage - If your home is damaged while moving and you are a renter or are selling, most of the time you will be responsible for repair costs.

Even outside the practicalities of actually moving your stuff, there may be transfer fees for Electricity, Foxtel, Phone/Internet services, bond if you're renting in between houses, storage costs in between houses (if necessary).

Ugh, maybe I don't want to move anymore!!!!!

. We just met with our financial advisor - it was me against the 2 men saying we are moving and this year. The financial advisor was wise and admitted defeat. Now to work on DH

So we just need to be prepared for these inconvenient moving expenses.

I hate moving....I am never moving again, I am just going to buy furniture and change the look of my house when I get bored with it!!

My most expensive move was to New Zealand.... $10K, which included my car, which I didn't think was too bad!!

But our landlord passed away and now her kids are putting the place on the market for sale

We have to move out at the end of this month

Oh B, that is crap, on so many levels.

I hope it won't be too difficult to find a new place to rent.

Thisisme sorry to hear you have to move.

It's just a pain.

I know how that feels, a few years ago our landlord put his house on the market and we had to move out. I hated the cost of paying bonds and the rent in advance and not to mention removalist cost. But we found a new rental very quickly and this house is much better.

The worst thing about it all is the timing and a 25%+ rent increase. But what can you do
