Mixing and matching styles
what do you think of my "likes" for our formal lounge? MrB only loves the contemporary pieces by the way. He doesn't mind the more traditional ones ... as long as they are in black leather .... yeah right!!!
Also, Other than http://www.interiorsonline.com.au, freedom.com.au, http://www.plush.com.au http://www.nickscali.com.au, what other furniture stores have all their products listed on their websites?
This is the room I am wanting to furnish:

For modern and contemporary try: http://www.mattblatt.com.au/ they also have some more normal looking stuff. I would love to look through one of their showrooms one day. Perhaps when the house is built I can justify a shopping holiday.

I like all your selections but prefer the ones from the 2nd row down for your more contemporary style.

I don't think the chairs in the top row are going to work - MrTIM is going to have a conniption if you get them and will conspire to get them dirty.
I think you need to stay sleek and tailored - you will probably be able to agree on a couch but armchairs can be a bit harder - you have to be careful as well as most which match couches are really uncomfortable - I would do something like Freedom for your couches and get your armchairs from a more speciality store.
Also looking at your layouts - can we just pick up on my personal bugbear and make sure the furniture is not pushed back against the walls but grouped together (sorry I am aware its just the 3d program which made it look that way).
Also TIM how are you on the whole mid-century modern style - I suspect its not necessarily your thing but I do find it often mixes better with modern stuff?

BTW and this is totally not going to appeal - I don't like black leather at all but if I had to do it I would go the Le Corbusier

But only because now after seeing it in Matt Blatt I recognise it as the lounge suite our architect friend had during the early 80s which always seemed rather cool.

Ooops *shy*
How far from the walls should they be?
Also, we are not too sure what mid-century is like. Will have a google

Hmm maybe you can do MrTIM a black Eames chair with footstool for comfort
http://www.mattblatt.com.au/Replica-...aspx?p5652c151 (or cowhide even) - but then you won't be able to do any other traditional pieces - you can have a fairly plain classic lounge but nothing buttoned I fear plus I think with the ubiquitous nature of this chair everyone is starting to get a bit sick of it - although I think if you have a lazyboy wannabe husband they are a fabulous alternative.
I'm more of a Grant Featherston girl I fear:
