Default Meet Rosierose

Hey to all my fellow decorating cyber friends.

I am Rosie, mum to an almost 5 yr old (lets call him Prince Persia) and 2.5 year old (lets call) him cheeky chops.

Prince Persia is quite unwell and profoundly disabled due to a congenital brain malformation and Cheeky Chops is 2.5 going on 30. The differences in my boys means that life is a roller coaster. Lots of downs but helps you to appreciate the ups.

Ups being said we are finally at the time of new house build here in inner Melbourne. Have kicked those tenants to the curb and are waiting for the demo of the old house and the beginnings of a new disability friendly but devastatingly stylish new home.

It has been a crazy past twelve months getting plans, permits, etc..... whilst DH is working lots to finance the build and also says he will do the hands on stuff so I have pretty much designed and planned this whole thing.

Now its like in childbirth you have had the build up of contractions, you are fully dialated and the contractions stop and you are sitting on the edge for a few minutes just waiting to push !!!

I am planning on giving birth to a brick californian bungalow with contempory yet classic interior. But as I know plans don't always go your way so it will be interesting to see how it all evolves over next year or so.

I look forward to lots of advice as I'm gonna need it, so you may regret having an open forum LOL

R

Rofl- what a great comparison of what it's like to build. I hope your build is nice and easy for you and your family. I think your plans sound fantastic. And don't worry we love to have questions and will do our best to find answers for you.
In Perth we have a place that runs courses for Owner Builders. Do you know if there is one in Melbourne? You could ring the Masters Builders Association and ask them. I have heard the course here is very helpful.

Lovely to meet you R...great storey and its nice of you to give us a background that we can take in and understand....I have a friend in a very similar position to you with the children...her 1st has a condition called global delay with other things attached and her new home was bought with the intention of knocking down and making it Dearson # 1 friendly for the rest of all their lives...
I am thinking the next birth for you will definately need epidural as that may be a bit hard to get out naturally.
I love that you are building a california bungalow I studied them quite alot in my design course and just love them.
Will love to see it all come together for you.

LOL......an epidural could help but being such a control freak it would take away the fun of getting in there and doing it myself. I did have two actually real natural births so I am a little stretched and used to pain...... but probably not 23sqaures of it.

Owner builder course is good but not necessary in Victoria for permit. Have read all the topics and have a good understanding of the business side of it and permits etc.... Have renovated one house (13 years ago) so have more than the average knowledge of construction...but decorating well I should have a degree in it based on the amount of research I have done...but skills wise I need more practice. I do have a great eye for what I like but haven't a knack for decorating.....

Hi there rosierose and welcome!

Do you have a floorplan that you can share with us? I have three kids (6 and under) and am always interested in seeing how others layout and set up their houses to suit/work with the needs of a growing family.

Yes a floorplan would be wonderful to see. We are so nosey lol.
All that renovating experience will make such a difference when your building. I will be curious to see which one you like most at the end- renovating or building. You usually get such a mixed response to that question.
