Default Low fat and über easy recipes needed...stat!

Rough couple of days .. I ended up in hospital and am pretty sick. I am fighting an infection in a couple of organs and have to return to have surgery to have a gall bladder out as soon as the infections are under control.

Unfortunately I need care right now and my poor husband who is a bit spoiled is looking like a deer in the headlights at the thought of shopping on his own or .. The dreaded washing machine.

The main worry is.. He doesn't cook. He does toasted sandwhiches, bacon and eggs and pancakes. End of skillset. I have to have a very low fat diet as I am unable to process any fat right now.

I thought you guys might have suggestions... I need some recipes he can follow that are low fat, insanely simple to shop for that he could prepare with limited cooking skills .

I will lok online and in my books (nothing else to do!) but thought I would ask here.

Decorating Forum to the rescue.
Spaghetti Bolognaise is low fat if he gets the best quality mince. As far as jars of Bologanise sauce I like Leggos Hidden Vegetables. Just don't add cheese of any kind.
Lamb Steaks and vegetables are a good alternative. Plus lamb is very easy to digest.
He could buy Teryaki kebabs from the butchers. Serve with rice and that won't have fat.
Do you like Salmon? This dish is fail proof. Instructions are here.

Do you think any of these will work?

Just be careful though of the bolognaise if you have gall bladder issues, I couldn't eat it when mine was ready to come out, made me as sick as a dog (sicker than I was if that was at all possible). Also might be best to steer well clear of any spices at all.

Oh no Eli that is terrible. What did you find you could eat for dinner when you had gallbladder issues?

You really don't want to know

Seriously I was in all kinds of bother, couldn't eat any tomato based sauces (a huge staple in our diets), onions, nothing spicy. I think I spent two weeks eating cereal and custard whilst waiting for surgery to happen.

I'm sorry to hear you're not well and hope you're able to have the surgery quick smart.

Being the time of year that it is, perhaps some simple salads with cold meat like sliced turkey breast from the deli and lean beef steak.

Also, some stir fries should be OK since you can use little to do oil if need be.

I use Kikkoman brand marinades, especially Teriyaki to marinade sliced rump steak and chicken for stir fries and chicken fillets for grilling. It really is yummy for something so simple.

There is lots of recipes here:

Grilled fish fillets would keep the fat intake low, too.

EEK! That is a lot of things to eliminate Eli. I hope you were able to eat them after the surgery.
Stir fries are a great idea Di.
Maybe he would be best to get a copy of the Women's Weekly Low Fat recipe book. Easy recipes to follow and yummy. Or you can find lots of their recipes online here.

what about fish and salad? Nothing healthier than that! You dont even really "cook it" so much as place it in the oven.

Puchase peices of fish, snapper or the like - wrap them in foil with a squeeze of lemon juice (add garlic or capers or herbs if trying to be gourmet - no need if simplicity is key) - oven for 20 mins.

Buy a packet of loose greens - place on the plate with some cherry tomatos and baby bonconcini (or olives in brine for a lower fat version)

The boys can throw themselves a loaf of garlic bread in the oven if they need something extra to fill them up

Now NONE of that is actually cooking - its just picking things up and putting them on a plate / dish / oven - there is no one in the world that cant do that!

Thanks guys!

He managed roast beef tonight. which trimmed was very low in any kind of fat and the first thing on the can do list from the docs. And steamed vege.

I am close to black tea, jelly etc but steamed vege is OK.
I also got him to buy fat free clear soups ..
He is trying so hard but seems very overwhelmed.

I can't eat most breads/dairy/raw vege/fruit/spices/onion/a list of vege that contain 'heat' like capsi*** and onion etc. Nothing acidic like tomatoes.

I can have porridge and no fat crackers with promote lightly smeared.

I can't think how to have pasta without oil/butter/tomato cheese etc.. at least one of them???

rice is Ok. with soy sauce. And lean chicken.. and a marinade sounds doable with steamed greens and rice.

grins we will def lose any extra xmas pounds!
