A little boys bedroom
I've been thinking about my son's bedroom (he's almost 3), since re-doing my daughters room, and wondering what I should do in there to jazz it up. It's quite baby-ish, hasn't changed much since from when he was a tiny little newborn.
At the moment he's in a cot, but I have a bed on order for him. It's the same bed that his sister has, a classic style plain white bed, white lacquered finish.
The other furniture he has in his room that I'd like to keep is a large set of drawers which are wooden (varnished wood) and a low wooden bookshelf.
The dialema I have (which is similar to Rosanne's after reading her thread) is whether to paint the timber furniture white to match the bed OR is there a way I can have the white bed and timber drawers and bookshelf together successfully?? I quite like the timber furniture as it is so am reluctant to paint it. And the new bed only comes in white so that can't be changed.
The other thing that will stay are his roman blinds which are new - they're a charcoal grey colour with a faint stripe in the texture of the fabric. Otherwise the rest of the room has white walls, and sisal type carpet.
Any ideas on the furniture dialema? And ideas for what else I can do in his room? His room has a door on one wall, a window on each wall x 2, and one full wall with nothing on it (was contemplating a feature wall of some sort here). Ideas for colours that might tie in the white and timber finishes?? Help!
Thanks

Urban girl I have just posted some pics of my boys room on Roseannes thread but have just noticed yours.
I really don't feel there is any issue mixing colours of woods and furniture. Gone are the days where all the furniture has to match and here are the days where we simply use other ways of tying the room together.
I think chocolate is a great boys colour and using chocolate bedding is a great way to bring the wood colourings in.....also some timber frames and maybe a chocolate wall decal will bring it all together.
Maybe you can make the theme the star rather than the furniture........
Good luck with the transition, all I suggest is one of those body pillows as a bumper along the fall out side while he gets used to it all and maybe a grow bag quilt that keeps their quilt in place. We also put a sensor light(from bunnings) in his room so if he did get up he didn't get scared and confused.
Have fun planning.

Thanks for that, and what a lovely room your son has! Gorgeous! It looks great!
Body pillows? Grow bag quilt? I must be behind the times, I have no idea what your talking about! lol Please tell me more about these.
His new bed will have a trundler bed underneath, so my idea was to pull the trunder bed out a little, so if he did happen to roll off the bed, he'd fall on the mattress below and not get too much of a scare. We also have a bed railing thingy that we can use if need be.
I like your idea of chocolate for a colour. I had considered browns so when you mentioned chocolate it sounds great. I'd seen a camo patterned bedspread in browns and grey's that I thought could tie in with his grey blinds and bring in more brown. But also thought that brown and greens might tie in with the timber and be quite natural looking.....

I like the look of mixing white furniture with wooden furniture aslong as its balanced. If you have two wooden items and 1 white item maybe balance it with some white storage baskets or a white lamp on his chest of drawers just to even it out it doesnt have to be a major item just a hint of white where ever the wood is to tie it in together.
If you have grey in the blinds you have heaps of colours to choose from that will complement it, blues, reds, greens most boy colours will match grey.
Happy decorating, cant wait to see what you come up with

Another exciting project Urban Girl. I can't wait to see what you decide. I am sure it will be as lovely as your daughter's room is coming out .
I love the mix of timber and white painted furniture. In our family/meals rooms we have both going on. At the moment there is more white than wood but that is soon to change & be the opposite.
I love all those colours the others have suggested for the room. I would start with the bed linen.
The trundle bed will solve the problem of falling out of bed. I am afraid I am not sure of what the quilt is. I know Elements is busy for a couple of days but I am sure she will reveal the answer by the end of the week .

I've been thinking thinking thinking about DS's room and where direction to go with for it...
I'm thinking of a camo army colour theme, browns, greens, grey & white.
Found a few photos online that I quite liked the look off. Like that lime green for a burst of colour. Not sure if a full wall would be too much...

Or else brown & teal as the colour scheme.....if I used teal/turquoise blue it would tie in nicely with DD's teal feature wall.....

Teal and brown always look gorgeous together ... and if you needed something to break it up, as a third accent, some cream, maybe in some accessories.
Can't wait to see it come together.
