Default Laundry sorting hampers Built in Vs Portable

I originally wanted in-built laundry storage hampers (under the benchtop) but have recently been thinking of using portable sorting hampers to keep under the benchtop.

I was thinking, with the portable ones I could change them when I got sick of them, and I could easily just tip them out... But then, I would still have to slide them out in order to put the dirty laundry in them...

With the in-built ones, the laundry will probably look cleaner, but maybe less personality??? And, those things don't slide out and can't be tipped out, or can they?

If you had a choice, which one would you rather have?

could the tilt out laundry hamper have a hole put in the shelf above it so you can just throw the clothes in and only need to tilt open to empty it? or would that ruin the top of the benchtop ? could a cover be put in place instead? similar to what they use on top of sinks?

With the weight of the washing, how do the hinges hold up on the tilt out washing basket after a while?

I actually have a laundry hamper in our WIR & one in Mr17's bedroom. By keeping them in there I find that 90% of the clothes are placed in the hamper. I sort the washing over our bedroom floor. I have a small laundry if it was bigger I might do it there. So my vote is portable kept in the bedrooms and wheeled into the laundry when needed. But I do love the look of the built in tilt hampers.

Thisisme I think we must be on the same wavelength at the moment. I have been also thinking how I would like my laundry to look like and I was wondering about the in build laundry hampers. Do I include it in my laundry or not? I am glad you are posting these questions.
Because we will building the double storey I think it would be much easier to have the portable laundry hamper in my walk in robe rather than take the dirty clothes all the time downstairs to the laundry. I am planning to buy a hamper for each bedroom.
One of my cousins just throws her dirty clothes over the landing down the stairs and it makes perfect sense but I found it quite funny

With all the bedrooms upstairs, I don't think wheeling will be possible
I really wanted a laundry chute but the location of our laundry didn't allow for this

I was chatting to a friend about this yesterday (she lives in a two storey house) and she said that the biggest pain is carrying hampers full of clothes down the stairs...

A hamper for each bedroom is a great idea.

... My parther gets VERY dirty on weekends so I wash all his weekend clothes separately. I also don't want to mix my clothes with his. I guess I would need two hampers in our bathroom/bedroom, one for each. It's gonna cost a fortune buying so many hampers Or maybe I should make him shower in the downstairs bathroom (right next to the laundry) on weekends

The main reason why I want sorting hampers in the laundry (regardless of the ones in bedrooms) is because I like to wash towels, darks, colours, my partners dirty weekends clothes etc, all separately. So for example, I won't wash my towels until I've got enough for a full machine load... not that this takes long to ac***ulate, but woolens would have probably been a better example

Can't you just toss the clothes over the balustrade like Milena's friend???
This is a real dilemma.
The only time I lived in a 2 storey home the laundry was on the top floor. I know that sounds odd but it was in Belgium and there was no clothes lines (why bother with so little sunshine) so you used the dryer in the laundry. Actually it was more of a mezzanine floor than 2nd storey, so there was a long balustrade which made the perfect washing line.

hey, you could turn it into fun, have 3 baskets down the bottom of the stairs to sort out the washing, then throw them off the landing and score points each time you get it into the right basket
