Very Jealous Abigail.....you will have to give us a run down on the Thermomix. I have one on my wish list this year, although DH would prefer a/c in the downstairs living areas.

I put it in a zip lock bag and smash them against something. Never used a food processor to do it.. LOL.

I do use my food processor for the actual cheese cake mix, never tried dough. It does have the plastic blades, so i think it can do it (Magimix). I should really research it.

Edit: the ziplock bag method works better if the biscuits are still in their wrapping, because you can bang the edges (i.e. their weakest point)

Oh, I know it's not cheap, I was just curious whether it also replaces a food processor

Yes, they are expensive but you can get rid of a lot of your other appliances.
It cooks as well as chops. Mine won't be arriving until next week and will let you know if it is as wonderful as I hope.

Long time no pop in! I'm going to play devils advocate here.

I love love love the Thermomix. It does everything, it even cleans itself! Awesome machine.

Do I own one? No. Would I like to? I used to think I did. But at $2000 a pop, it's one very expensive machine. And after watching two friends have theirs 'die' after just shy of three years of use, I'm not about to spend that kind of money.

I did alot of research and recently invested in a Breville Kitchen Wizz Pro BFP800. It RRP at $499, but with a heap of research and bartering (and standing firm and showing I was prepared to walk away) I picked mine up two months ago for $390! Thank you Good Guys!

Why did I choose this machine? Well .... it has a motor as powerful as a Thermomox, it chops, dices, chips, grates, minces, grinds and MAKES BREAD DOUGH! The only comparison I could see between that and a Thermomix, is that it doesn't cook the food for you!

I have used my machine almost daily since getting it. I love that it has a 2L bowl but also the smaller 1L bowl. It has a quad blade, which most blenders don't have - this gives it the capacity to grind and mince better than anything else. It has a dough blade, mini slice blade for the smaller bowl, a whisk blade, grate blade (small and large), julienne, chip and slice blades. It has a wide mouth food slot and takes whole potatoes etc.

The machine is heavy, the base weighs something stupid like eight kilos, which stops it from vibrating when the speeds get up.

Some of what I have made with it has been Thai Chicken patties, bread (all kinds!), Marscapone biscuits for Chrissy, fruit mince for my pies, mash potatoes, soups of every description and more.

It was well worth waiting for it to hit the Aussie market in September. I haven't been disappointed and if you are looking for something mid range without the cost .... have a look!
