Default How to Child Proof a Bathroom

We have to be so careful with our cherubs once that get mobile. Their inquisitive little minds seem to get them in to all sorts of mischief. I thought this article on child proofing a bathroom had some valuable tips.

Take these steps to make your bathroom a child-friendly environment.

1. Secure all lower bathroom cabinets with safety latches.

2. Store medication, vitamins, hair bleach, hair dye, bathroom cleanser and other hazardous solutions in a locked cabinet or in another room.

3. Be sure to keep bathroom door shut and use door**** safety guards to prevent children from entering the bathroom.

4. Keep toilet seat lids down at all times; lock them with special lid locks.

5. Use nonskid mats or adhesive safety strips in the bathtub and shower to prevent slipping.

6. Install electrical outlets protected by ground-fault circuit breakers to prevent electric shock.

7. Set your water heater at 120 degrees F or install anti-scald devices on faucets.

Tips & Warnings

Purchase safe tub toys to make bath time fun.

Never allow children to play in bathrooms.

Never leave children alone in the bathtub; they can drown in just two inches of water.

Change a baby on a changing table, not on bathroom countertops.

If you have any other tips you can share with us that would be great

Thanks for this J-A you have reminded me that I need to do something about our kitchen. Our 13mo grandson spent a lot of last weekend standing inside the freezer after opening the door and opening lots of drawers....never thought I would have to go back to kidsafe locks.

It is, it is, but it is also very nice when they all pack up and go home

Actually my daughter was gorgeous last weekend. I had to go have a big sleep and awoke worried about dinner, as you do. Came downstairs and she had it all under control. When I mentioned that she shouldn't have and it's my job, she wrapped her arms around me and said 'mum you don't have to slave your guts out because we are here, you deserve a rest too' - bought tears to my eyes she did.

That's so sweet, Eli. You reap what you sow.

I would have thought just keeping the bathroom door closed and never leaving them unattended when in the bathroom would have done the trick for safety. My bad.

I must say I did all safety things but the little houdini was pretty clever....in the end I found that extra set of eyes in the back of my head worked well....

Even if you childproof everything they still find the most amazing uses for things that you never thought as dangerous so I would say keep your eyes on the kids as much as possible....... and water is a biggie so many lovelies gone to heaven or braindamaged from drowning.... such a waste......
