Hey... Thanks for checking in...

It has been a rough two weeks but def improving, 2 trips to emergency, a couple of short stays and finally the operation. I feel pretty lucky.. I got some nasty diagnosises over the last 2 weeks.. So an op seemed like a great outcome. I got excellent care.

I am sleeping in short bursts but do it 24/7 I can't shoot for another 8 weeks but can do office work from late next week/early the following week.

Hoping to be awake for longer stretches soon and back on the forum again.

Sorry to hear you've had (yet another...) tough time, Lanne. I must have missed the initial news (on holidays and internet use is very sporadic).

Sending you love and best wishes for a speedy recovery. xoxo

Take it nice and slowly Lanne. Your poor body has been to hell and back. Just so relieved that you are now on the way to recovering.

Sorry. I am very vague.. (sometimes intentionally ..some times not LOL)
I was a lil queasy over xmas/boxing day... got up to head to a shoot early on the 27th.. was 'unwell' but figure not contagious (it was a newborn shoot).. so I went. THANK GOODNESS! or i never would have made it to him.

Shoot was on the coast, did the drive down OK, but drive home was tougher. 'unwell' turned to nasty stomach pain..which got worse and worse throughout the afternoon. I have to be pretty sick to call a GP.. but Mum insisted it was worth finding one. 9 clinics.. no one was open so we paid $200 to get one to come out to the house (http://www.familycare.com.au/) Worth it if you are sick over holidays - we got about $120 back on medicare so it wasn't ridiculously expensive.

He suggested appendix and antibiotics - mum said emergency NOW! (she is a nurse at the hospital) I reluctantly went. They deemed not appendix.. but couldn't decide what it actually was. Lots of blood and other tests. I saw 6 docs. Got checked in (thankfully i had bought a small bag). I ended up in for 3 days. ... 2 teams of specialists each assuring me it was their speciality. lol. I called it Pick An Organ.

Gall Bladder, with stones.. check. But Kidney infection radiating out to other organs. Check. Both adamant. Both right. I got big hits of antibiotics and they said as soon as the kidney and friends cleared I would be having the gall bladder out. I got to come home on oral antibiotics but they weren't enough. Infection worsened and things got nasty. GP upped the antibiotics. She was worried about kidney function.

I ended up back in emergency.. another stay. Kidneys failing by this point. They decided it was peritonitis (hope i spelled that right, and said 55% chance I would die that night. We had lochie with us so I was texting A the diagnosis and where the paper work was and who to contact etc).. it was horrible. Thankfully.. it only took 2 hours until they decided it wasn't that.. no death imminent but pretty sick. I was pretty happy with any diagnosis from there on out. It was all a bit surreal.

I got out again.. they couldn't operate. More tests.. more talk of dialysis and kidney issues. The gall bladder seemed far less important.

Another few days of messy diagnosis, testing and appointments and some antibiotics I completely tripped out on (what a night! hahaha) and we got things under control. Mum intervened (27 years at the one hospital does help you to know who to ask .. I got a fabulous specialist and he sorted things out. They readmitted me under acute surgical care team and as soon as we got results back saying kidney would cope, I had the gall bladder out.

Kidneys are coming good. Gall bladder op was perfect. Recovery is slower than normal. I am pretty weak. I am constantly surprised by what I can no longer do (just due to weakness so it will pass) I can't hold my iPad, I can't carry a coffee to bed etc. I am improving tho. I need a rest after a shower or my tiny lil walks around the house but i can now do those unassisted today.

People keep asking if i am resting. ha. There is nothing to do but rest! I am sure if i had the strength to do anything else i probably would be but for now i am just working on eating and sleeping and sipping coffees hehe I am improving each day tho and will return to work late next week.. probably from bed. I mentor other photographers and will be able to do that from bed (Skype and phone etc).. but i can't shoot for 6 - 8 weeks so next week we are working on what to do with clients booked in that period.

So not the best start to the new year, but so pleased the worst is over. AND the real estate didn't organise for the builders to rip out 11 walls in 6 rooms in the middle of it all. LOL. .. we are now saying.. 2012.. umm year. What about a new financial year LOL

So after all that it WAS your gall bladder? And it was infecting the other surrounding organs like your kidneys?

Sounds like my sons history! But his had been going on for the better part of 2 years. 5 hospital stays in just over 12mths and numerous specialists. Lots of blood taken, lots of xrays, lots of ultrasounds. All done in private but still lots of out of pocket expenses too! There went/goes my garage door and driveway. lol.

His ended up being a retrocical appendix. But had attached itself to the bowel so imflamed all that too. At one point they were just going to remove his bowel and give him a bag for the rest of his life! Poor kid, he was 10 at the time. I was devasted for him.

Thank goodness my paed intervened and sent us to a major childrens hospital in Brisbane and basically told them not to release him until they found the problem and under no cir***stances were they to operate withou first consultating him.

Glad to hear you are on the mend - and dare I say it? REST!

Jeez what a nightmare............that diagnosis and thought that you could die...............horrible.... and Mummachika your poor boy.......

The body is amazing yet a scary world of organs and mysteries and Drs for the most part have a slight idea but it really is like playing detective and u have good detectives and bad detectives.

I am still amazed at the amount of people who ask me "what the Drs say" about my son's condition... When my answer is well as little as they possibly can get away with they looked shocked. I have long given up on Drs but there are some amazing ones out there I hear...and saved your life Lanne so glad u found one..

Lanne, you poor thing. What a terrible thing to have to go through. the only way is up now.

Mummachicka and R-R, the mind boggles. There are some very mediocre doctors out there that when you come across the brilliant ones, it is a shock.

Here's to the best of health to everyone for 2012.
