Default Hot Cross Buns

Where do you buy your Hot Cross Buns from? Or do you make your own? Do you have the fruit ones or the chocolate variety?
DH & Mr17 want the chocolate ones from Brumby's or Bakers Delight. I will buy one fruit one for me on Sunday. I'm more of a traditional gal.

JA, at the moment Brumbys are offering a free breadloaf when you buy your hotcross buns.
I love the choc ones and because I am a choc s*** I buy the Brumbys one becasue they use cadbury
I do prefer the fruit ones at breakfast time though. I have never made them.
Everyone else does such a good job, I leave it to them.

I love chocolate but don't like the chocolate hot cross buns I don't like the fruits ones either.....so I buy fruitless for me and fruit for DH and the kids. Well 3 out of 4 kids, 1 doesn't like them at all. Strange girl. I was only saying on the weekend that if they had of had fruitless buns around when I was a kid it would have made my life so much easier. I used to sit there and pull out every bit of fruit, my Mum used to get so frustrated with me

Baker's Delight, Brumby's or Woolies for me. I love to put them under the grill, stack on the butter and then zap in the microwave for 20 seconds so the butter melts into them

When I had a breadmaker I used to make my own. IMHO I think they were so much better than the ones from the bakery. Mine were full of fruit and spices.

I like the ones without preservative 282 (many brands have this)...but haven't bought any this year......I usually wait to the Easter weekend to indulge....

All this talk drove my car to the shops and I couldn't not buy hot cross buns. But they did have which I bought and I have eaten already.
Orange and choc chip hot cross buns..........I am a big fan of jaffa flavours so I have to say MMMmmmmm yum.
Rosie, since you mentioned that preservative I have been searching everywhere on the Brumbys packaging and website and they do not have any ingredients anywhere I am not sure why or how they get away with it but nothing.....very interesting.
I will keep a look out now and ask next time I am there........

Ok just checked and there is no 282 in any of brumbys products they have stated it as something they take pride in.
Good to know

I'm pretty sure Brumby's and Bakers Delight don't use 282. The supermarkets probably do though. Roll on Sunday, Hot Cross Buns and Chocolate for breakky

Thanks for the 282 advice......I hate that most premade pizza bases have this as do tortillas and crumpets.....

I think Brumby's and Baker's delight are the go...........I did make them one year but they were a lot of effort and not so good - couldn't get the cross bit right actually...

Being of Italian heritage I also love the Colomba Pasquale which is like a cross between a panetone and a sweet brioche...and the greek Tsourekia is yummo too....

I am a sucker for a sweet bread (no not the offal type)... when I worked in a Jewish school I used to eat Challah (sweet egg bread) for brekkie every day....no wonder I was heavier back then...
