Hi Bubbles welcome to the Decorating Forum.
What an exciting project and being inner city such a great investment. And you have come to the right place to get ideas or just to have a sounding board for your own ideas with the renovation.
I look forward to hearing all your plans.

Well you got to love a man who puts you in charge.
We are all about achieving a champagne look on our beer budgets. The more you save on one room means the more you have for the next- that's right isn't it???

The kitchen
The family room. The door on the left is the shower and doorway to right to get to kitchen.

OMGosh what a huge project. But it has such huge potential with those high ceilings and fireplace. Have you worked out what style you will decorate it in?

No not 100% sure but I do love the hampton look like in The house that AM built.
At the moment I have a brown brando lounge suite by moran and antique furniture such as dining & chairs, dressers, hall stand, bookcase, chests of draws ect.
I would like to keep a few pieces in the new home and eventually add newer furniture. If there is any $$$ left after reno.

We will restore it back the way it would have been with old pine floorboards, large cornices & skirting boards. But more modern for the meals, kitchen and family room. I would have loved to put hardwood or darker flooring but hubby wants what was originaly in the house.
Hubby wanted the old look and tessalated tiles in bathrooms , we fought and I won . Going for large tiles & modern bath.
Here is a pic of the house the one on the right.

It's stunning- well it's going to be stunning
Have you ever done this Decorating Quiz?
I love Hampton's style and it will be a perfect way to blend traditional and new.
You will have to share with us how you "persuaded" your hubby about the tiles.

Yes poor hubby. I went to tile shops and got samples and showed him what I wanted, almost every day till I drove him nuts.
I also reminded him that when I mentioned his style to the realestate agent that sold us the house she did say go modern, clean and simple . She should know.
Did the quiz and this is me

Rustic Revival
You can take kid out of the country but you can't take the country out of the kid... or is your theme "you can take the kid out of the city, but you can't take the city out of the kid?" Either way you play it, you are one of the unique individuals who loves a mix of modern and country. The clean lines of the modern softened by rustic /vintage elements is the perfect mix in your mind. And can we blame you? You've taken the best aspects of two popular designs and mixed them in a manner that appeals young and old alike. A subtle background of white or light colors provides a nice canvas for all the wonderful flea market, eBay or garage sale finds as well as the classic modern pieces that you love.
Materials
The material palette for urban country runs the gamut because of the two extremes being mixed. On the countryside you see a lot of wood, woven rope, canvas and linen, rustic metals and wrought iron, cowhide and vintage leather. On the more modern side, you see acrylic, satin and polished nickel and chrome, glass, faux fur, refined leather, fiberglass and sleek woods. It's the mixing of these elements that makes the style work so well. Seagrass and other natural woven materials are often used for floor coverings. Concrete and natural wood floors are very popular, and work really well together.
Colors
When it comes to color, think light, casual and airy. White, pale gray or beige, khaki and sage; all of these colors make nice, subtle backdrops for Urban Country style. Think of the colors of natural linen, concrete, and if you'd like to go dark, use the dark brownish-black of iron or the deep burnt orange of rust. The key is to keep the spaces feeling open (go modern!) and yet warm (yay for rustic!), and by going light on the walls and major pieces and more color on the accents and accessories you can achieve this mix really well.
