Hi from country Victoria

Hello. I am a long time follower but first time user of the forum. We are currently building a house on 5 acres in country Victoria and i have loved getting lots of advice and tips from other peoples builds and design ideas. I have a delimma at the moment and i'm hoping you might be able to help. In our dining room we have a raked ceiling, from which I (read..the electrician) will be hanging 2 pendant lights over our dining table. Our table is 2700mm long so do i put the lights a quarter of the way in from each end or divide the 2700mm into 3 and hang the lights at that spacing (i.e 900mm apart). Hope this makes sense. The pendants are 75cm in diameter. Will they look too close together if the space is divided by 3?

Ah a stalker!!! ROFL..............nice to meet you. Hope someone can be of help..I find it hard to visualise measurements like this.....I am more an "eye-tronic" girl in that I look at space to make decisions.... What a great sized table though....My only thoughts are if two pendants are enough to light the space? How big is room?

Caught!! Hahaha..dobbed myself in there didint I Thanks Rosierose for your response. The dining room is part of a large open plan kitchen-dining-lounge area which is all north facing, as well we have highlight windows to the north so we are hoping that light shouldn't be a problem in this area. Chatting to the electrician yesterday and he might dummy up a dining table and said lights so we can get an idea of how they will look insitu.

Hi dbjancourt it's lovely to have a stalker talk to us.
So if my Maths is right - which is questionable at night. These are your options:
Divide in 3 means the spacing will be -
525mm space - 750mm light - 150mm space - 750mm light - 525 space
Divide in 4 =
300mm space - 750mm light - 600mm space - 750mm light - 300mm space
Option 3 is -
400mm - 750mm light - 400mm - 750mm light - 400mm

I would do option 3 as it is evenly spaced out. What do you think?
By the way there is a region in Victoria called Jancourt - are you near there? My sister lives near there. Beautiful part of the world.

Thanks julie-Anne. I hadn't even considered that 3rd option. But it probably makes the most sense. Now how low to hang them!! What do you think? Taking into consideration that they will be hanging from a raked ceiling. The two rooms on either side of the dining area have 2.7m high ceilings. As you walk in from the front door and entry the dining table and pendants will be the first things that you see so they will be quite a feature. So not sure weather to take them just to 2.7 or bring them down lower maybe 2.4m. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. By the way, yes we do live near jancourt. My hubby grew up there and we now live about 15kms up the road. That is quite funny that your sister is near me because my sister is living in Perth!

Maybe even lower - like 2.1mt. I like lights lower over a dining table. It adds to the atmosphere. But if you prefer 2.4mt that would be fine.
So is your sister south or north of the river in Perth? My sister was raised here in Perth and married a dairy farmer. Were you originally from Perth?

2.1 would look great. The only thing is the drop will be massive. Hubby is worried they will flap around in the wind when we open the doors!! Typical man thinking about the practicalities. Doesn't he know it's about the WOW factor. Haha!! Omg I bet we know your sister, my hubby is the local vet and deals with dairy cows all day. My sister lives south of river near fremantle she and fiancé moved there 2 yrs ago and love it. Such a beautiful place-great climate.

Have you chosen the lights yet? I think the flapping problem will depend on the weight of the lights.
What an amazing small world. We live between Fremantle and Perth on the south of the river side. I'm glad your sister is enjoying living in Perth.

That is so funny- such a small world. My sister is in bicton- renovating a 3 bdroom unit,her fiancé is a builder-very handy!! Yes I have picked out the pendants they are the George Nelson bubbles lights 'crisscross'. Try this link bubblelamps.com.au for pictures. Hubby calling them the spaceships!! No appreciation!! Haha. Lol I guess they look a little like spaceships. They are seriously cool. But I too would be concerned about them blowing around. If you have the doors open is the wind likely to flow in the direction of the lights?
