Default Help me find a cheaper alternative

Ok so I am still seriously in love with this chair

http://www.domayneonline.com.au/tulip-accent-chair.html

which would look fabulous on our front deck (once husband has built it) - but I am not prepared to spend $500 on it as its rather a whim product given all the other things I could spend money on (and it won't last forever being outside).
I have worked out its a copy of the Mexican chair:

http://www.google.com.au/imgres?q=ac...1t:429,r:2,s:0

which is nearly as expensive and unlikely to be as hardy for permanent outside use.

Any thoughts/suggestions - I am just so over the black plastic rattan chairs which are everywhere and work ok for a dining setting but not for an occasional outdoor chair.

Jamie Durie where are you? Surely you guys could do something which would fulfill this niche!

Love the chair Clp. It would look stunning on your deck.

I found these on ebay for $395. Not a lot cheaper but we are getting there.

This website has some interesting but reasonably priced chairs.

Haven't seen anything quite like those lovely chairs, but we have these in our local Far Pavilions...

You could spraypaint - they are available in two shades of rattan, plus white, and for the price I think would be worth painting?

Not sure if they have stores elsewhere though :S

You could try your luck on ebay. Search for saucer chairs - they are not exactly the same but it has the same vibe. It is a very 60s style and are very 'in' at the moment and I see them all the time at antique centres.

As an illustration, here is a link to one on ebay at the moment:

Hope that helps the search. xx

Thanks for all those suggestions girls - some good options there - I think I need something either metal or plastic as it will be fairly weather exposed - its not our main deck which is out the back but just something to open up our living space - we up on the high side of the street so it will be overlooking the street - which is fine as its a very leafy street (although which the people across the road wouldn't insist on parking all 6 or so cars on their property - for some reason Canberrans have an aversion to parking on the street and would rather park anywhere else - even if its not the actual driveway)
