BIL is getting better.........his dog has gone to the doggie door in the sky.......

It could be worse................just getting rid of all my time expectations now and it actually feels as though the pressure is lifting.. When you try to rush things start going wrong so taking our time again now.....

R-R, I feel for you. You've got a lot going on and as you said, it's best not to rush things.

One thing I learned is not to assume anything because like with your floor finish, they make you feel like YOU should have known how it would turn out even though they should have mentioned it. All care and no responsibility seems to be the common catch phrase.

My mother mentioned that she'd like to renovate/extend an old house I'm guessing around the same age as ours. She's got rocks in her head after seeing what we've just been through AND the cost involved. They have lived through a complete renovation/extension of a Federation weatherboard place and don't have the best memories of it so why she would contemplate it when there is simply no need is odd.

R-R, yes it is definitely mentally and physically challenging so much so we still have some painting touch-ups to be done and I am considering getting someone professional to come in and finish it off. I am better off working and getting paid and then just getting someone in for a day to finish it off for me. It is not difficult, just fiddly stuff.

One thing that makes a heck of a difference is that my dad is an electrician although he doe snot work 100% pf the time as an electrician. Oh, and he is male so he is one up on me there, too.

Dad is very handy and did a lot of the carpentry and internal fit-out himself on their previous reno/extension. He is on the wrong side of 60 but loves a challenge though. I think my mum is doing the "spending the kids' inheritance" thing, LOL.

RR sorry to hear things have been so hectic and gone south a bit. Chin up possum! I love your little saying, I imagine that, that has come from a point where you just feel like giving up and just accepting what it is. We just sigh now, and say 'ahhh yeah' when things dont turn out as expected (except for the aircon, got cranky when that didnt work out). I think that when so many things go wrong at once it feels so deflating that your expectations of what you had imagined are shattered and this can take the shine off (pardon the pun) of excitement of creating a new home. Things will get better, most things can be fixed. Not that it will make you feel better but I quite like matt finish on timber floors, infact we had ours finished as matt as it would go.

Fingers and toes are crossed that things progress quickly for you without anymore hiccups

I also wanted to add, a big thank you RR regarding your post about cabinet handles as we have purchased some gorgeous pulls and K.n.o.b.s through this website (we just have to fit them now). They were fantastic with communication and were very easy to deal with and we are very happy with the quality of the product.
