Default Furniture for family room

Can you please help with family room? Dh has just plonked the furniture from our last home into the room. It is obviously way too big. Sofa x 2 are 250cm.
Do I need to turf both or keep 1 and get a couple of chairs or get some sort of modular?
To the right we have steps and to the left widows. The room is not very wide but fairly long. I guess I shouldn't really have sofa in front of window?
Having just got the dining room right I need to convince Dh that this room needs adjusting. I would like grey leather.
I will attach a modular that I think could work.

Look at all that lovely light in that room...............wow.

I think they look ok to me..........I don't see anything wrong with sofas next to windows as long as they are not right up against the glass.... the one that has its back to us is a bit large so perhaps two smaller chairs in exchange would work better, or on right...

But hey if you are in a position to turf them and start from scratch I would go for modular ......

The trouble is the sofas are 7 years old and in perfect condition. Dh likes to lie on one and watch TV. I really should be purchasing a gas log fire!
Maybe I just need a cabinet or sofa table so you don't just see back of sofa.
What colour would be best white, black or natural (same as dining table).

It looks great as it is

However, I do think that lighter colour sofas/modular would look nicer.

I think that the layout of the room looks fine (furniture doesnt look too big at all), if you are not happy with seeing the back of the sofa just add a sofa/console table at the back (like you had already suggested). If you have other furniture to buy or items (like your log fire) then I would buy that first if its more important to you. I think the current sofas look fine, if you really would prefer lighter ones then just work out which purchase is more pressing to you at the time. Sometimes there are so many things to do moving into a new home its hard to work out which to do first...

I agree with all the comments above Abigail. They look fine but lighter coloured sofas would look better.
As for the console - what is your coffee table made from? Is there any other furniture in this space that doesn't show in the photos?

I agree with the others - as long as there is access it works fine.
I'm a huge fan of console tables - I think the buffets you have pictured might be a bit heavy though.
Something more like this:

although possibly not in that finish might work better

Although if its to separate a lounge/dining area and you had a dining table on the other side then the buffet style might be more appropriate.

Anyway lots of console ideas here:

I'd love to see a statement armchair where the Christmas tree is (ok I am just made to spend other people's money)

But realize that's me projecting my mid-century taste again.
