I'm not big on patterns so they will definitely be fairly plain.

Can't wait to start playing with the moodboard site that rosierose suggested

Hiya I just caught up with this thread.

Family room - I like the chaise better but either will work. The chaise will keep the room more open and you won't be looking at the back of a sofa when entering the room. If you do choose a sofa then a console table behind it helps but might be too traditional a look for you.

Meals Area - I agree a small table that relates but doesn't match the dining table.

Dining Area - our dining is 4 x 4mt. We have a 2.1mt long table that sits 6-8 people comfortably. I am not sure a table this long will fit comfortably in the space when the chairs are all being used. You need to add 450mm for each chair. So our table takes up 3mt when someone is sitting at the end chairs. That only gives you 500mm at each end as a walk way- which is not huge. I hope those measurements are right as it's late & I am tired. That's my excuse for bad maths. Anyway I would get a smaller table which is normally 1.8mt and fits 4-6 people, 8 at a squeeze.
I would only have 1 pendant.

Sitting Room - with the TV in the future being a focal point I like the idea of a sofa just out from the left wall. Then a swivel chair on the right and left of the sofa but closer to the TV. When the TV is not being used I would have the chairs facing the sofa. But with them being swivel you can turn them to the TV when it is being used.

Curtains - I would have simple curtains in the Sitting and Dining Room to define it is the more formal space. Probably white or neutral in colour so they relate to the shutters. I would then use shutters in the casual zone.

Have I covered everything?

You are very close and we can definitely help you tweak things. The hardest decision for me is getting the dining and meals tables just right. But post us pictures and we can help you decide before you buy.

Thanks so much for that Julie-Ann

So you would recommend curtains in sitting and dining, and then plantation shutters in meals and family room sliding door?

I am not very keen on plantation shutters for the 4-panel sliding door as it is probably going to cost arm and a leg

Yes it will cost a small fortune. I guess what I am saying is that I would keep the same window treatment in the meals and family area. I wouldn't mix it up. It could however match the dining/sitting area but it doesn't have too. Does that make sense?
Lot's of people don't put window treatments on their sliding doors. I personally do but just another thought.

With the changing of hosts last night we lost some posts- but I had them on my email account so I will add them for everyone.

"Yeah maybe do shutters on the formal front rooms and use something like IKEA long white muslin curtains for the more casual areas?"
