Default Floor Rugs

Hi guys,

I have just started to look into floor rugs and my first look into them was a bit of a shock, the prices were unbelievable . Yes they were hand made so I guess they would be expensive but geesh... Anyway, can anyone recommend a type of rug that would be not be in the tens of thousands? I really dont want to spend more on a rug than a sofa lol or am I being deluded?

I have a room that is 5.5x 5 so need a decent size rug for the furniture to sit on or at least touch the sides of. Our style is a Hamptons-ish style with maybe a little french thrown in, what sort of rug could I get away with? What sort of rugs do you own and what colours are they? Were they freakishly expensive?

Also if anyone knows of good rug places in Perth that would be great too .

HSH try Barri's Rugs in Marmion St, Booragoon. They can also get a lot more rugs than they have on display.
Online try Deals Direct and Buyster.
To lower the price also avoid wool as it is a lot more expensive. I also find wool stains more easily.
Good luck.

HSH, are you wanting the rug for people to be able to sit on or just to break up the space a bit?

We are planning to place one of these rugs under our dining table, and another in our family room, to delineate the spaces. Will try to also find my inspiration pic for you. We don't plan to actually sit/lie on the rugs, so the jute option is fine for us.

Another option could be your local carpet store, or even Freedom.

Hi dmplus3, no we are not planning to sit on the rugs I just wanted them to define the space really. In the study and activity area we would like a rug to guard against scratching the floors (as we have found the felt things come off the bottom of the chairs after a while).

So are the jute ones rough like coir mats? Just wondering as I have felt the coir ones and they are pretty rough, but I guess if you aren't sitting on them it doesn't matter.

The Ikea one above is flat woven and not rough. I imagine there would be a few stray fibres, but not as coarse as coir.

Love jute rugs for your look HSH. Or a pastel floral rug like this:

Thanks for the tips ladies, I think I will have to go out and have a real life look at some rugs to get a proper look at colours and textures. At least I have a starting point now to work with .

I really like IKEA rugs - most carpet places have really thick almost shiny looking rugs - better for cleaning though.

I love the idea of jute/sisal rugs. They are cheaper so you can get them in large sizes to define a space, and they look great with all types of furniture.

I'm a big fan of these...

They look like a sisal but are actually a synthetic rug, so you can get them wet (normally natural fibre rugs don't like water).

Also have a look at aurugs.com which has some reasonably priced options.

HSH beautiful rugs are so cheap here in Ras Al Khaimah, near Dubai. I have bought some lovely ones I will be taking back to Australia with me when I leave.

Has anyone else noticed in their travels how much more we pay for things in Oz such as furniture, decor items and food. I buy fabulous Australian steak here that is just so tender. i have never had anything like it at home. We obviously save the best stuff for export...but to add insult to injury it is so much cheaper here despite all the export costs!
