Default Feature Wall

Good afternoon. I'd like to create a very subtle feature wall in my living room. Just a beige colour that matches the rug under my coffee table. I have heard that feature walls should not be done on a wall that contains windows and should come out at a 90 degree angle. I have also read that it should be a large wall that you first notice when you enter a room. The wall that I'd like to paint has a wall next to it with a bay windows but it is a wall that you first see when you enter the room. I have attached a couple of pictures. Is there anyone out there who can give me some advise? Thanks in advance. Lusc

Hi Lusc! How are you? What kind of style is your home. SOund like it could be a charater house with the bay window. How about a wallpaper wall for the feature wall/ Maybe a pale gold/beige with a subtle swirl design.
Good luck!

Hi Lusc

At first glance at your photos the wall with the stripey paintings on it doesn't stand out as being a potential feature wall, just because it looks like it's on an angle and continues around at the top of the bay windows? Is that right?

I'm curious what the other walls around the room are? Is there another wall to the right of the bay windows? Would you be able to put up another photo or two showing further around the room?

Hi Lusc welcome to the Decorating Forum.
I love the bay window and I think that is the feature in the room. It looks like the ceiling drops down a little over the living area - is that right?
I think I would paint the whole of that room the beige colour. That way it would make the whole of the room a feature.
Painting the room the slightly darker beige colour will also make your blinds on the windows stand out more. Which would be great as it would draw your eye to the feature of the room- the bay window.
Is it possible to put a water feature outside the bay window? Just to again play up what a feature this window is?
I think having the wall with the striped paintings as a feature wall just doesn't quite work - which may be why you are questioning it too.
Let us know what you think?
