Fabric sofas and sweaty/dirty guests
For those of you who have fabric sofas... Do all your guests smell like roses and are perfectly clean at all times? If not, how do you deal with them sitting on your fabric sofas?
We've currently got a leather lounge so have never had to worry about this, but I am considering fabric sofas now and have been thinking about this a lot. I do not intend on buying cheap sofas which I would throw out after a couple of years so am just trying to work out how I would keep them clean and hygienic ...

Thanks Eli. So it really does work? Do you wet or dry wipe it after sweat/dirt has dried?

No plastic covers please .
TIM get a good quality faux suede fabric like Warwick's Global or Macro suede. These fabrics wipe clean easily. To clean them I use a white flannel rinsed in warm water and a bit of dishwashing detergent. Wring the cloth and wipe over the sofas. I have removed ink, red wine, oil and vegemite with a flannel. We don't have smelly guests but you might want to use a little Febreeze on the sofa after they leave.
Hope this helps.

Our new sofas will have a fabric treatment and we've already implemented a rule of no eating/drinking on the lounge.
I'm not so worried about my guests being dirty but more so about my kids. I'll be getting some throws/similar for sure.

Even though our sofas are easily cleaned I use throws on them. The throws are on them when it is just us at homes. When we have visitors I whip them off. I actually made all our throws. I bought some heavy material - something that might be suitable for curtains - and cut them to size and sewed the edges. It is much cheaper and they are very durable.
