Default Exterior Colours

What colour or colour brick is the exterior of your home?

I have seen some great (and not so great) colours being used lately. There are 2 new homes on a main road near me and they are very adventurous with their colours. 1 is 50% white, 35% grey and 15% red. It is stunning- very modern and just gorgeous.
Opposite is a little unusual - so far the brick wall (and it is on a corner so it is a long brick wall) is turquoise and the house is pink. Not my cup of tea but...

So I thought we could share what the exterior colours of our homes are or some ones you have seen that you really like. It will help others to get some ideas.

Our home is a Solver colour called Brolga 200%. It is a light creamy yellow, with grey roof and front door and letterbox. Every other bit of trim and the windows are in white - Colorbond Surfmist.
I also really love Dulux Desert Floor 200%. It is a real earthy cream - like wet limestone.

So what's your home or favourite exterior colours?

hi Julie-Ann
Our house as you know is being built now, we chose Monier Albacore bricks 1 1/2 size bricks and Monier Horizon dark brown roof tiles. We also opted for cream mortar with the bricks, I really don't like dark mortar with light coloured bricks

Have attached pics

Heres mine -

some in Colourbond shade names:

Roof - Black (Monument)
Bricks - Pearl Grey (like brownish with hint of greyish undertones)
Windows - Dune (like really light grey), same for Garage Doors
Accent Timber - (too embarrassed to tell) but will change it into Jasper (light brown) soon
Driveway - Chestunt (to match the planned Jasper accent timber)

That sounds like a great combination. Good point to add the driveway colour too. I really would have liked dark grey for ours but it is poured limestone- so it's cream. Have you ever walked bare footed on dark grey paving on a hot summer's day? Very ouchy.

We have -

Boral Striata Roof Tiles in Charcoal Grey - low profile
Boral Bricks - Jarrah with natural mortar
Woodland Grey for windows, guttering, fascia, downpipes, garage door and render on portico plus our fence (which was Estate requirement)
Dune for render around study window

Our bricks were the only one DH and I both liked in the Cat. 1 range. I'm a bit strange in that I refused to pay for a brick upgrade. I like dark houses and love dark window frames inside the house

We've also got Boral Jarrah bricks
with off-white mortar.

Haven't got to the roof tiles stage yet but they will be dark/almost black/charcoal.

I chose the colours for my house almost 4 years ago, and I still absolutely love them.

I built (and have spent my life) in an established area full of 1950's and 60's triple fronted cream brick veneers, and I have a personal 'dislike' to light bricks, so I had to have something darker! I have always loved the federation style homes in some of the more expensive and older parts of inner eastern Melbourne, and wanted to try and create that 'feel' but in keeping with the look of the neighbourhood. I also wanted something that wasn't going to date quickly, or be too modern for the area.

This is what I chose:

Bricks - Daniel Robertson Hawthorn Tan Blend with flush off white mortar:

Roof tiles: Charcoal shingle style (don't worry about the arrow!):

Garage door, gutters, fascias, downpipes and window frames: Colourbond 'Paperbark'

Front doors: Black (will eventually match the exterior lights, metal infills on fence and letter box)

Portico render colour: Bristol 'Earth Kiss'

Eaves: White

Driveway: eventually will be a charcoal colour to tie in with the roof!

I wanted to keep it fairly simple and not have too many different colours. The Paperbark blends in well with the bricks, and the render colour is almost a darker version of Paperbark. The black accents suit any colour, and the charcoal goes with the bricks. I could not have had terracotta coloured tiles with these bricks as it would have made the whole house look too orange!

The 'grand plan' once everthing is finished:

I also adore Georgian and French Provincial style architecture, and if I could have afforded it, would have built either one, but this was a good compromise for the area I built in.

EDIT: JA, the details on your home are just stunning!! It's gorgeous!

Default Our californian bungalow

As you may have read we are building a reproduction californian bungalow............

When I was a child I used to stay with a "nanny" friend of my grandma in a grand old red brick cal bung in Melbournes south east. I loved that house so much and was so sad that it was knocked down to build units when she sold it....

I always wanted to buy one of these houses but instead decided to build one as my husband has always loved these too...

I have researched as much as I can about the exteriors of these houses and done countless drive bys so much so that I am possibly having restraining orders put on me as we speak..LOL

Anyways.....I know that there is a danger of having a repro look quite sadly a poor imitation so am quite nervous about choosing materials and colours...

Here is a mood board I have come up with....... off white and evening haze trims for timber windows (ignore colonial window it is just in there to show off white colour)...the roof is a little browner than a cal bung usually has but I would hate a bright orange roof..

Please give me your options of this......honest opinions
