Talking Decorating style - Friday Fun Quiz

What's you decorating style?

The sun is shining in Perth for the first time in ages, it's friday and school holidays are about to start (which means I get to sleep in)
I was in the mood for some fun this afternoon and found this quick quiz.

I don't find most of these type quizzes very accurate. I always put it down to that I like so many different styles. The beauty of being an Interior Decorator is that you can do one style in one client's home and something completely different in another client's home. But this one was absolutely spot on.

Do the quiz by clicking the link here and come back and tell us what style it says you are.

http://www.sproost.com/

For those of you who know me this was mine.

Hollywood Couture

"Welcome to Hollywood! What's your dream?" That's right, its time to roll out the red carpet and get ready for the sparkle of crystal and all things flashy that make up the Hollywood Couture style. Hollywood Couture style originated in high-end lifestyles that made up the years between the roaring 20's and the swinging 40's where it was important to bring a feeling of glamour to the home when the world outside may have lacked it. Nowadays it's scratching a similar itch in the sense that it's bringing a sense of opulence to a world that seems to have forgotten how much fun it can be! The great thing about the updated version of the style is how versatile it is. You can really take it in any direction and add almost any style into the mix, perhaps a contemporary leather sofa paired with lacquered Louis XIV chairs that have been upholstered in lush velvet. The key is that each item feels as rich and over-the-top as possible and yet everything still seems livable. It's not a space that screams: "do not touch" - rather it almost dares you to experience its luxury. More >
Materials

The material palette you are drawn to is wonderfully over-the-top. And you love the contrast between something as cold and sleek as glass or acrylic to something as lush as faux fur (emphasis on the faux here!). Striking textures are found throughout the rooms, from leather (and don't forget the patent!) to silk to mohair and velvet to satin and silk. Each of these materials in another style could seem subtle or boring, but not in your home. And oh how you love mirrored furniture! The lighting is key for both its mood (think sexy!) and its sculptural beauty. You love chandeliers with glass crystals or high gloss lacquered finishes on table lamps.Colors

For colors, the sky is the limit but drama is essential. If you prefer a lighter palette, think silver and grays with white accents, or go white on white, with only the gloss to separate surfaces! Warmer tones work well in light colors too — only this time envision gold (talk about opulent!) and warm pinks and yellows. Or go bold! Try a high contrast of bright white against dark blues, grays and even black. The great thing about Hollywood Couture is you can take it anywhere!Space Planning

When it comes to arranging your rooms, think martini party. Rooms should encourage both lounging (I see a chaise in the corner, you with a martini glass and the lights turned low!) and socializing. Hollywood Couture wants people to come in, take a seat and spend the night chatting away. It should encourage conversation as much as it highlights the amazing pieces in the room.

I can't wait to see what your style is.

I did the quiz this morning and it was a perfect match.
This is me

Nantucket Style
Oh how you love the beach! Who doesn't, right? And so your dream home is either perched in your favorite beach town, or you've brought that favorite beach town into your house.
Materials
Your art and accessories speak directly to the activities that are found at the beach. Pieces of driftwood you found here, pictures or paintings of the amazing views there. Things that remind you of the coast - surf boards or fishing boats - are found throughout the house. The feeling of the seaside is both abstract and literal in the design of your space. The fabrics are natural, cottons and linens and are light in color and touch. Much of the furniture is wood or wood framed (the lighter the better, think driftwood!) and wicker, when done right, is a must.
Colors
And since your true inspiration is the sea, the colors and textures in your home are the same that you would find at your favorite beach: white, light beiges and grays of the sand and driftwood, a variety of blues for the ocean and sky, and greens and vibrant blues of the sea glass... but the key is white! Your space should feel light and airy and give off the mood one has when at the beach: laid back!
Space Planning
Your furniture is comfortable and the layout is cozy. The more it reminds you of actually sitting on the warm sand the better! And what do you do at the beach? Hang out with family and friends - and your home is just an extension of this play place... and though the space is filled with large white furniture, it somehow manages to feel both durable and casual.

I did the quiz and I'm contemporary which is true. Fun

Contemporary
So fresh and so clean! Antiques? No thanks! Vintage collections and clutter of any type? Not for you! You like your space new and sleek. Each piece is chosen carefully as if it was a piece of art, and your love of minimalism is expressed throughout each room. Furniture has clean lines and geometric shapes are preferred. You're not afraid of color; in fact bold color options only highlight the minimal items you choose for your home. But, the key is clean! To master the minimalist interior you not only have to be selective in the few furniture items you bring into the space, but you must also find a way to hide all of the real life items as well.

Materials
With contemporary design the material of the object is nearly as important as the object itself. Manmade materials such as acrylic, steel and plastic are often found in your spaces and chrome and glass can also fill prominent roles. Wood is also used, though the nature of the wood is rarely highlighted. Stains tend to be either very dark or very light so that the grains of the wood are minimized and only the color remains.
Colors
Colors range dramatically from subtle neutrals to bright colors, though the one consistent element is the lack of clashing patterns and busy color palates. Bright colors are used sparingly and intended to create drama and highlight a wall or piece of furniture. Many times the entire space will be neutral in palate and it is only the art and accessories that bring in color and drama. In this sense the space literally acts as an art gallery intended to highlight only the items of utmost importance.
Space Planning
When space planning the focus is placed on finding the right pieces to give you enough seating for entertaining but never so much that the room feels cluttered. The feeling should always be one of less is more, and your furniture tends to appear more as works of art than simply as a sofa or a chair.

I just did the quiz, was very interesting. Turns out I was 60% Nantucket style and 40% Cottage chic. Probably a very true result, I am always drawn to holidaying and living at the beach and have already planned my perfect last home at a beachside town. Have always loved the whole Cape Cod look .

I just got my darling husband to do the quiz.
He had the same answer as my quiz - Hollywood Couture. We must be meant for each other.

Thumbs up Just took the quizz... spooky

Zen Style
Goodbye clutter, hello clean! However in Zen Style, unlike some other contemporary design, the consistent level of natural materials keep the spaces from feeling cold and sterile. Zen Style has a nice mix of rustic with chic so that there is an incredible level of ease and sophistication about the space. Plants and greenery are very important in helping achieve the warm and natural feel of the space. When at all possible, natural lighting is used in spaces to help create the openness in the space.
Materials
Natural materials with their calming effects, are very prominent. Indoor water features, natural tatami or sea grass floor coverings are often used on top of wood or natural stone flooring. Bamboo is very popular in its living and dried form, as are dark hardwoods. Floral arrangements are very common and orchids and bonsais are very popular for their simplicity and beauty. With Zen Style, you will often see very clean lined furniture paired with rustic and sometimes ornate antiques (or replicas). However, the key is minimalism so the more ornate pieces are tempered by the lack of nearby items.
Colors
When it comes to color, subtle is key. Shades of gray, brown, green and white are common because of their simplicity and calming nature. Color, or lack there of, is intended to highlight the openness of the space and simplicity of the design. Very often you see light fabric and upholstery paired next to dark hardwoods, and this subtle contrast is enough to provide interest while still remaining subtle.
Space Planning
When it comes to furniture arranging, less is more. And a lot less is even that much more! Think minimal and avoid clutter at all cost. Furniture pieces are usually clean-lined and many times are low to the ground. Intimate spaces are created with furniture groupings as well as carefully placed floor mats and area rugs. You will often see floor cushions for additional or even the main seating.

This is definately a style I would favor.

I was sitting here bored and came across this older thread and I thought I would do this test. I am 100% Contemporary which is very true.

Hi Milena
I'm glad you enjoyed the quiz. Most quiz's just ask you 10 silly questions but I found this one pretty accurate with most people I tried it on. Even though you were 100% Contemporary I like how it showed when you were a mix of styles - my style was a mix of Hollywood Glamour and Asian traditional.
