Default Decorating the foyer - please help!

I am after a slim console table for our foyer, to go along the tiny 60cm wall between the staircase and the cinema doors. I would love to hear your suggestions or any specific examples, as always

I have considered a pot plant etc, but it just wouldn't be practical for us. We really need a spot to leave our keys when we enter the house...

Also, any suggestions as to how to decorate the rest of the foyer would be greatly appreciated... Keeping in mind that our walls aren't at 90 degrees and there are a lot of doors and not really much wall space at all... I've considered a cowhide rug, but would need to run that past MrB and research the washability etc.

Please excuse our unsanded staircase, unpainted doors and the lack of balustrading and door handles. Balustrading will be glass with timber posts and handrail.

TIM do you have any pictures from the front door and showing the other side of the stairs? Would you have room for a round table between the stairs and the front door?

I will try and find some photos and take some measurements. But I don't think there is enough room for a SOLID table to stay there

What do you mean by SOLID TIM? Elements and I just did an entry where we put in this round table. The whole room really came together beautifully - if we say so ourselves.

Ooops. By solid I meant big enough to be stable and not flimsy

If you have room this table is only 80cm diameter.

I agree with Julie-Ann - the first option I thought of was a central table. That way traffic can flow around it through all the doors but it doesn't look like you have the room.

Other than that, I think I would use a key hook or wall hung shelf rather than a console, which could make the area feel quite crowded.

If you definately wanted a table I would probably use something tall and round, so it doesn't look like it's squashed into the corner - along the lines of what Julie-Ann suggested.

Is there anywhere else you could put a table, like in the dining room or at the top of the stairs?

My daughter has one of these Chinese type hall tables, in white. They are skinny and don't take up too much room.

I love those tables Abigail. Do you think they come in a 60cm width? I have seen bedside tables that style that might be 60cm.

I think Anna is right - for that space a shelf will work better. And be easier to find.

I did see on a TV show where they had a table and cut it in half and screwed that to the wall. If you have something old that you could convert it would be an idea.

Would you only do one shelf or more than one?

Ah, yes. We have plenty of room in the rest of the house, but I don't think MrB will be happy with it being too far from the entrance...
