I watch a lot of UK and European cooking shows and for the last few years have been using creme fraiche (LOVE IT) but it is creeping up around the $6/8 a tub (or $12 at the green grocer the other day :O)
I was grabbing cream last night in woolworths .. and they had some new creme fraiche. It is by Bulla. It has George from masterchef on it.. and it was $3.56!!) bargain! I bought some and will test it tonight. it looks as though it may be softer than the one i have been buying from wattle valley in the cheese section.. possibly this one is better for desserts?
Verdict: It made creamy beef strog. It didn't make the same kind of sauce as the usual one does. It ended up quite bland and simple. Lochie rejected his dinner. (he ate the veges under extreme sufferance but wasn't keen on the stroganoff). It didnt break down with lemon juice as the normal one would have.
BUT... I made chocolate self saucing pudding for dessert .. and for the sake of a fair verdict for the forum

i added a tablespoon to serve. It was divine.. so much nicer than the other (which i wouldn't add to a dessert).. so Yay for dessert and Nay for the main.
