Default Creating a Focal Point in a Room

Every room needs a focal point. The focal point should be the 'first thing' you see when entering a room. It should be something interesting to look at, something colorful or texturally and visually appealing. A focal point makes a room feel more inviting and balanced.
Many rooms may have an architectural focal point such as a fireplace, picture window, or a bookcase. But many rooms have no architectural focal feature, so you need to create one.
Here are some ideas for establishing a focal point in a featureless room.

A large piece of furniture or a console table with a large painting or mirror above it can be a focal point. Accessorize with a pair of lamps and one or two interesting objects.

Create a gallery wall as your focal point. Use some of your favorite photos and frame and matte them in the same style and color frames. A simple black or white frame with a white or ivory mat works best.

You can create a focal point wall by painting one wall a different color from the rest or using wallpaper.

Tip: Use lighting to enhance your focal point. For example, use a picture light, track light, or wall washer fixture on a painting or wall display.

Hi Julie Ann!Loving all 3 pictures, but No 1 is favourite and loving No 2 ! LOVE the mirrors in No 1.
Tonight I redecorated abit. In our entry,10 ft 10ft we had the PC table, rprinter filing cabinet. Directly onto that 170's amber cceiling floor glass sliding door..
The loungeroom had a small 70cm tall 70 long pine 3 level bookcase. I put that along another wall in lounge opposite loungesuit. Funny thing, all the books didn't fit back onto the bookcase after I took them off.
SO I am going totake PC and everything out of the entry. We have a stained glass mainly cream with red/blue glasss for the ceiling light to be installed.
I was on MaryTyler Moore pictures of her apartment, I love the black iron Bakers rack, like a bookcase . Very fine wire. Would love that in the entry. She had pot plants on hers.
I figured the first room you walk into shouldn't be a computer room, they say that the first room you walk into in a house sets the mood for the whole house. & It is true! Everyone is addicted to Pc's lap tops and gadgets!
Went to HomeArt today but no bakers rack. I could find Mary's apartment tonight but this is the thing I'd love! Thanks for the GRREAT IDEAS Julie Annn!!

It sounds like great improvements Cath. I love the Bakers stands too. Maybe start a new thread and ask if anyone has seen one around. Maybe we could find one online.
