Default Controlling the school stuff

Lots of blogs have been talking about how to control school bags/hats/shoes etc.

In our new house, we couldn't fit a Mud Room, but decided on a Mud Space.

Even though we're still in the rental, while I was away last week Husband decided to make my dreams come true and purchase all the elements I had chosen from Ikea to create such a space, just in time for school to go back.

Shock horror, Ikea only had one of the components we needed. We bought it anyway, and made do with some 3M hooks to hang swimming and library bags.

The photo attached shows the (interim) result. I will share the real deal once we move.

How do you control the school clutter?

With only 1 child it was never a big problem for us. But I love what you have done in that space Dmplus3. It was the numerous school notes that drove me crazy. I have a pinup board in the laundry for notes and a diary on the kitchen bench for the whole family to use. Hope the kids have a great day tomorrow

I hate the school mess!!!

Last year I bought a French grey rattan trunk for the family room that nicely fits both school bags, library bags and hats. Their school shoes ( pretty much all the shoes!) live in the garage on a large shelf. That way I don't get the dirt through my house and they know where they are the next morning! Their lunch boxes and any notices come out of their bags once in the door before the bags go in the trunk.

Keeps away 'most' of the mess!

when I first read the title, i was going to ask if it was my school clutter or my sons'. Then I read a little further and realised mine was irrelevant.

At this stage I only have 1 son at school and he's in Prep. I have an office chair in a reading nook in my room, so his hat and bag take up that space.

With regards to the notes and newsletter's he brings home from school, I have a promotional folder that was given to me by the school last year, which includes all the welcoming gibberish that comes with your child beginning school. Any paperwork that comes home goes into that. That way I know where to look for it in case I need it.

I don't know if things will be so organised once his little brother starts Prep next year. Only time will tell I guess.

I'm lucky Julie-Ann, most of my school clutter fits in binders, which are within easy access in my office.

With 3 boys at school...year 12, year8 and prep, I am at my wits end about this whole school thing

I have given myself a draw each for all the school notes in the study, shoes in the garage and bags under the study desk. Not ideal but the amount of books, clothing, shoes, letters...that's all I can come up with ATM. Also with 2 of them involved with cricket, we have cricket stuff every where in the garage and the endless amount of washing for cricket clothing and school clothing is doing my head in lol.

In saying that, I try to keep the house spotless as well so I don't go into my 'house moods' as ds1 likes to tell me.

Don't you just love how much clutter you a***ulate thru school!!
We keep all of our shoes on a rack in the garage, I empty & hang the school bags & library bags on each childs wardrobe door handle, we are renting at the moment but once we build I plan on putting hooks in the walk in pantry for the school bags. I have a calender inside the pantry door that I write all of our bits & peieces on & I keep a plastic sleeve for each child in a basket in the kitchen for notes & invites. I also tape the school canteen menu to the inside of the pantry door. Im one of those people that can't stand to put things on the front of the fridge so hte inside of my pantry door becomes pretty busy
