I think I would go timber floor again. They are great on the legs. I would go satin this time though.

I was told to get the gloss finish as it is harder wearing than the satin. And in a short time the gloss is not so glossy. I prefer the satin too.

The timber floors at my beach house reno have just been polished(finished on Friday ) The builder suggested that we go with a satin finish. Our timber floors at home are gloss but I thought with the potential for sand to be tracked in this was probably a good idea. The satin finish looks fantastic. I like it much better than the gloss we have at home. When I re-polish the boards at home I will definately choose a satin finish (unfortunately they were only re-polished two years ago so that will be a long way off)

I would 100% recommend a satin finish to anyone.

Randomly resurrecting this thread but I am all over the place ....does anyone know how much the average timber flooring like Tassie Oak costs per sq meter?

I have a quote for Qld spotted gum 130x19 supply only 90m2 and installed at 150m2..... seems like a lot....?

That actually sounds right by Perth standards Rosierose. That was the amount we paid for our floors which are Messmate.
Presealed timber floors are cheaper at around $120m2. I have some gorgeous bamboo presealed floors.

Question for you all - has anyone here seen or had a matt finish floorboard inside? Wondering what a matt finish would look like on cypress pine. Am toying with the ideas of lightly stained, no stain, matt or satin finish. Going for a less glamourous and more casual look ... its quite difficult to know what the outcome will be - you really have to trust your floor sander guy huh?

Hi LDH

I have never seen matt floorboards but I am thrilled with the satin finish we have on our floorboards in my house near the beach. They give the house a very relaxed look and are yet to show any marks from sand etc. My boards are hardwood.

Hope this helps.
