Default Childrens bed

The flood through our house this week has meant that the contents of the toy room, are currently in our living space (not ideal LOL)

Now the room is empty and has been thoroughly cleaned. . i am going to move Lochie's bedroom into it and his toys into the small room

Partly because the toy room and our room are on the same air con link and partly because i think his needs are changing and the toy room is less of a focus, and he is reading in his room or watching a movie etc.

I figured. i would do what I always do and head to ikea. They have nothing decent in kids beds. what. so. ever. His mattress is brand new .. but the bed was from mum when he grew out of a toddler bed. He is 8 and needs a proper bed. I don't want to spend a fortune.. couple of hundred ? or there a bouts. would also like a bookcase etc that fits in with the same style (doesn't have to be a package but it could be) .

any suggestions?

I had thought hemnes and matching bookcase from ikea but they only do it in a double

Lanne do you think your DS would like a loft bed? My DS had a loft bed for years. He loved it. It was great for building cubbies under. But it also gave a lot of extra room in a small bedroom.

I am looking at getting the Brimnes bed for Mr 3 in Rome.. I like it as it has drawers underneath and book storage in the headboard..

Do you think Lochie is going to end up tall. It might be an idea to invest in a king single.... I love the loft bed idea too...creates heaps of space..

What about a bunk for sleep overs etc? We have great white bunks from Harvey Norman and they make a lovely set of twin beds when not in bunk formation.

Gosh the things you don't think about. We invested in a very good quality mattress for him and will stick the single bed for this purchase.

He is going to be massive. 6ft2 - 6ft4 is the prediction and yet always mummys baby .. The bed we buy now is for about.. 5? years .. i imagine we will just go a double (as he will be quite solid) at 13 - 15. (currently 8).
This is a one kid sleeping solution. He never ever ever has sleepovers. That might change but not before 13? So we can consider it when the new bed (double with single on top when he is older).

I would do a loft bed .. but a low one.. he is scared of heights.. but i think he would be OK with having a lil height and a 'cubby underneath' - cubbies are big at the moment so this could work. Ikea have one that fits this bill.. BUT... i heard it doesn't take a standard mattress. http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/30123995/

does anyone know if this is true? it could be the perfect in between product.

My goodness he is going to be lovely and tall.
What are the measurements of his existing mattress Lanne?
I really like that Ikea bed. It would be perfect.
But what about something classic that he isn't going to think is too young for him later. There is this one here for only $379.

Just a thought to keep in mind when choosing, I would avoid beds with an end to them [they stop feet hanging ovet the ends]. When my 2 sons were young we bought them lovely beds not unlike the one in the photo by Julie-Ann. Both my sons are very tall boys, the eldest 6ft4 and the youngest already 6ft, if we had bought beds without an end they would have been more comfortable and we wouldn't be replacing them so soon.

A double bed is no longer in length than your standard single bed , to get added length you will need to get the king single or a queen size. However, our eldest who is 6ft 4 has a double , as room was tiny and couldn't fit queen size but manages because there is no bed end and he can sprawl out and sleep diagonally if wants.
