Default Bathmats

I am looking for a new bathmat. Mine seems to go mouldy so quickly.

Hands down best mould remover ever is Clove Oil. Weird stuff ... you get it from chemist and naturopath stores..

I have used it with great success for about 12 months. Wash the surface and then spray with 4 drops to 1/2 litre in a spray bottle. It kills mould spores *unlike bleach which can just hide them*... it really does rock.

Wash the bathmat and then spray on the clove oil mix...it might cure your existing bathmat.. or try it on the new one to prevent the problem. It might even be worth using a timber one? as it would drain better.

I agree with Lanne re the Clove oil trick- brilliant
I use a mat from Ikea - Its one of those small heavy cotton striped rugs that sell for about $5 and never been a problem to dry-I've used them for years, no mould.

Another idea is to use a wooden bathmat so the water drains through the slats.

Does anyone NOT use bathmats?
I've noticed that not many (if any at all) display or blog bathrooms have bathmats. I guess this is to reduce clutter and show off the tiles???

Yep I agree with ablancspace, i use the Ikea stripey mats for $5, they wash and wear and look good, no mould or smell. Especially with the boys bathroom, which becomes more of a wet room by the time they are finished. We have black shiney floor tiles and these mats absorb well too, stop you from slipping up and go thru the machine a treat.

I think they just don't show them on the photos.
I use bathmats that are the weight of towels- like the photo.
Then during the day it hangs up on a hook to dry. I can't imagine not having one - the water and the mess, and the cold tootsies.

when I was cleaning out my closet and found some old towels I thought it'd be perfect to cut them up and crochet them into a bathmat, now I got a colorful bathmat !

I can't NOT have a bathmat! Particually in Melbourne in winter! You're all nice and toasty warm after a shower, why ruin it by stepping straight out onto cold tiles and instantly getting frozen feet?! LOL.

I have always used them, and never had a problem with mould at all. Although there have always been heating vents in our bathrooms, so perhaps that helps to keep the mould at bay? they are also not left on the floor, but hung up over the side of the shower recess, or bath. I used to use ones that were the same as a towel, but I now use the thicker cotton ones, and are perfect on a winters' morning!

This is my latest purchase:

...and hanging up on the shower recess, reflected in the mirror (which is actually close to the heating vent in the ceiling!):

They get washed with the towels once a week...but do take longer to dry as they are so thick!

I don't use a mat to stand on in the shower itself, as the tiles are not slippery.

I love your bathmat Stormy...it would not fit with my decor but tiles are easily changed aren'y they......
I find as long as you hang it up if its wet and let it dry it should be fine, if it is just not drying thats why it will get mouldy.....maybe get 5 and swap them daily....I have a double width cotton one from Target and Freedom....they have survived weekly stints in the dryer for about 3 years and are still perfect.
