Default Assignment Help

Well ready through my first module and have my first assignment to do (yay).

I have to pick 3 pictures wich convey a different message of space..

I thought i would use the image of the dining room with the chalkboard from ready set dissect as one of them to convey the sence of space and light... Im just having trouble putting it to words.. Im not sure if i need to be all technical about it or just write what i feel? I dont want to do the wrong thing?

Assignment One
Select three interior spaces that each convey a different message, mood or feeling. For example: a space that feels intimate, a space that feels elegant and a space that feels airy.
Describe how these moods have been created in each space using the elements and principles of design as they have been discussed so far.
It is important to examine each space you choose, to observe and understand how a specific mood and feeling has been achieved.
Work through the elements and principles of design; some will be immediately obvious, while others not so.
If you find pictures of beautiful, harmonious spaces, you will find that most of the elements will be working together.
If you feel the space is lacking harmony, you might like to mention why, and how you would change and improve it.
There is no word count as the assignments are fairly open-ended to encourage creativity.

I have also stolen 2 other images from the ready set dissect thread... it was easier then googling for some images.. ha ha

I got the blackboard dining room one, the hamptons living room for that movie you mentioned and the sitting room with that globe pendant light..

They seemed like 3 different rooms to me?

Pop the 3 images up so we can see them again and compare them to each other.
Here is a good summary of the elements & principles of interior design. Read this and then keep these elements in mind and look for those elements in the 3 rooms.
Just jot down rough notes at this stage. Any thoughts you have about the rooms. We can tidy it up later.

Here is a space that feels airey....obviously because its an Alfresco
Now there should be a list of elements and principles of design described in the introduction and start of the assignment use each point as almost a question. I forget what they all are from their point of view but texture is one elements and as you can see the textures in the photo are outdoor textures and that can create an airy outdoor feeling reagrdless of being an external room.
This room gives me a sense of ease and realaxtion because of the pool nearby and the access to the sky is visible so the holiday experience is conjured up. The chopped wood and open fire also makes you feel cosy and homely so even though you are outside it could be winter and a sense of warmth is still available......
I could go on but this is how I would work through the questions that its asks of you.......it is formal but very explanitary and still use your own feelings....

Probably not all but most should be fine.....Just remember the way you start your course will see how you follow for the rest of the assignments.....formal and explanitry now means you will have to keep it up throughout....so you may find you are more comfortable being a bit more casual and point form, do what suits.
I know that Outdoor area is actually one of the homes I used for a lot of my course...
Sometimes you may have to source pics that suit the question more than suit you. just type in a heading and search images in google that always helps to do a quick image search

I find it's better to over explain yourself with assignments like this, better to ramble on than not say enough.

I would say something like .....

"This room creates a cool and cold feeling. It creates this feeling by using cool colours like blue & green etc etc...the textures are such and such which adds to this feeling. The form is such and such and this adds to the feeling because such and such."

Make sure you go touch on all the elements of design and explain how they relate to the room.

Out of interest, which course are you doing? I did one through the Interior Design Institute and this question sounds very similar to what I recall doing a few years back!
