Cpl, I would love to get an interior decorator... The only thing is that I much more value/trust opinions of more people if that makes sense. So what I would then have to do is either get a number of interior decorators (which would end up costing a lot of money) or I would come here asking questions again

The only problem is we have different opinions here and I think that sometimes makes it harder for you to choose - I think with some of the building options that made more sense as it was often quite practical the advice.

But now its about decorating which is much more subjective. I also think you are a bit of a melange of styles (which often we are) in that you like aspects of Hamptoms/trad and also like quite modern stream-lined styles.

I think a good interior decorator should be able to help you find what you like and you wouldn't need to ask for lots of opinions. I know actually finding someone could be rather hard and none of us seem to have many Adelaide contacts. Mind you I think first step is a shop which you like their stuff (even if the price isn't right) and getting them to suggest some names. I would probably avoid getting someone from Freedom or a place like that as they will want you to buy only their stuff - but interior stores should have a list of people they could recommend.

Also I am wondering if there are any glam display villages which might give you some ideas - I know because you guys did your own thing - wanting to focus on a quality build - you haven't looked that way - but quite often their styling inside is quite good (because thats what makes people choose them).

Its a real shame that Adelaide doesn't have Domayne and Oz Design because they go good quality and you get to see it all put together (well less so for oz design which only does fairly standard pieces).

Also what house magazines do you like because I find they often reflect different styles - in that Home Beautiful does a lot of Hamptons/casual modern. Real Living does modern & retro - Inside Out is often quite stylized - with retro and modernist design elements.

Personally I have decided I am not a Hamptons girl at all - maybe if my house was cuter I would be but its not - its an ugly box and I don't want to make it something it isn't. So I am able to do a modern/retro stuff and it works (lucky as Ikea looks good here whereas it didn't in my old house).

So as much as its about you its also about the house - I think your house has some trad elements but is also v modern and streamlined at the back. So you can be a bit more Hamptons-y in the front room (and bedroom) but perhaps you back living spaces need to be more streamlined?

By the way have you been here:

http://www.thatponyshop.com.au/

in the Hills? I absolutely love so much stuff in this shop - I walked in and thought "this is my style" - may not be everyone's cup of tea though.

Sorry the website has nothing on it.

Thank you clp. And thank you for reminding me of display homes!!! I tried to find out who the interior decorator for medallionhomes.com.au was but didn't have much luck. I think we will need to visit their display homes again
