The dark chairs would be perfect, I thought I noticed dark chairs in your old photo.

For the piece to go on the long wall, I would go with something that gives extra storage so the first one you linked to, the lighter top is a nice feature. You are right with your ideas, I think modern, traditional, rustic or even an oriental style will suit your room so go with something you like once you see it.

Ooooh I hadnt thought about ikea - now i have spent ages on the site looking! ha!

Do you think i could do one of the cubed bookcases:
http://www.ikea.com/aa/en/catalog/pr...483/#/50195203

but have it horizontal and on castors:
http://www.ikea.com/aa/en/catalog/products/90186273/

as an interim thing until i could a) decide exactly what i want and b) afford to save up for one i love. I saw this one when i was looking before: http://www.maisonliving.com.au/produ...-1564-100.html I think its quite cool especially given the paint effects available ... I know Im going off on a tangent here but it could look awesome in a duck egg blue with the darker distressing showing through ... obviously not something I would commit to until i was in the space and thought it would work.

If you can use the Expidit cube else where I'd go for that as you can turn it on its end to fit a smaller space later if you get the duck egg blue unit, that will go nicely with the dark & light colours you have

I have Ikea on my mind at the moment as I need something similar for storage in my office. I've been looking at Expedit & Hemnes open shelves in white but I really like this as it matches my desk, has shallow draws & keeps stuff hidden behind doors http://www.ikea.com/aa/en/catalog/pr...051/#/40171052, but I just can't make up my mind as I like white as a contrast to the dark wood

Sooty why not start a thread on your study? Show us your desk and we can chat about your options.

LDH i absolutely love the bookcase at Maison Living. You absolutely have to have it. With some soft blue in cushions, a throw and ornaments we can easily make it work with your room and existing furniture. I love the mix you will have of traditional and modern pieces of furniture.

I would but I've got a few other things to sort out first like window coverings and by the time I start looking seriously for another piece of furniture I think there will be many other shops I want to visit

Much easier to sort other peoples rooms out first

I'd get inspired by some Porters Paints - I am loving my outside furniture done in Palm Beach Black so much that I think I will find a crappy round timber coffee table and do that in it.

Hey,

So I got a few things and am hoping for some advice on room layout etc.

I have attached picutres of the two pieces of furniture i got. One of them should probably have a small (22") tv on top of it (set to the side and some vases next to it) and the other can either be in the room or in the hall or entrance hallway.

I was thinking either on the left wall as you walk into the lounge (see living areas photo – thinking of under the broadhurst prints) or on the left side of the entrance to the kitchen (photo attached – thinking where the ladder and basket are in that photo). Otherwise in the entrance foyer when you walk in (see photo – it could go where the mirror is).

Do you think any of these would work? Or do you have any advice to give me? Or do you just plainly not like any of the peices and think i should sub them out for something else?

Thanks for your help.

I also have the option of trading that large wine rack for a smaller wine rack - in a similar style but about half the size - more like a side table size than a small sideboard size.

I like the large wine rack - but you need to stick them in and move them all about and take some photos so we can see!
