Alternative to Glass Splashbacks

Would you love to put a glass splashback in your kitchen but just can't cope with the price? They may be gorgeous but also incredibly expensive.

Laminex has come up with an alternative called Metaline Splashbacks. I drove over to the Laminex Showroom to look at these up close for us. I was very impressed. Although it doesn't look exactly like glass the product certainly doesn't look Laminate. It is a very attractive alternative. It has a very high gloss look and would look very stylish in your kitchen.
It comes in a great range of colours from several neutrals to fire engine red, and my favourite a silver.
Now for the best part.....it is 30% of the cost of glass.

I was very impressed and will be highly recommending it to all my Kitchen clients.

Actually thats debatable... Depends on the glass and colour you choose...

Metaline works out at about $350/m2 installed... You'd have to really get quotes on both - depending on scenario and where it going etc to get a true idea on costings...

Metaline isnt a cheap option - but it is a good option, great new product!

Thanks for the information 701Design- I haven't quoted it yet and only had the 30% figure from the Laminex people. How much cheaper have you found the Metaline to glass- roughly percentage wise?

I havent had them both quoted recently but I will be doing so in the next couple of weeks. I'll let you know the quotes and we can compare.

The laminex people will say all kinds of things, alot of it is nonsense - espesh if they just work in the showroom - they all contradict themselves... hahaha - can be very frustrating! Espesh if you send clients in there to look at products of finishes...

You should have come along to the information seminar on it a couple of weeks ago - (I Should really extend all the invites i get to you...)

If you go to crosby tiles - they have a glass tile range called Matrix - its a glass top with a ceramic base... thats slightly cheaper than glass and thats sitting at roughly the same price as metaline, so its really , from my point of view, not much cheaper.... but i'll have a better idea in a couple of weeks what the difference is - if any....

Tho - in saying all that there are definite advantages to the Metline product - no wait time on fabrication - can go in same day as your tops - where as glass takes weeks and sometimes months because they always stuff it up!

also it Can be applied to and around corners all in one piece. unlike glass.

But as we should all know not every product is right for everyone... you need to look at your option carefully and speak to someone who knows what they are talking about.... Hence why a designer, a good designer, is the perfect option.... they can give you all the options - give you pros and cons - get the prices and then you can decide for yourself!


Someone like myself... someone without bias & knows the industry and products.


But not someone from Laminex Not someone who is just trying to push their own products

Yes I forgot to point out the cabinetmaker installs it which makes the process much easier.

Well going by that photo you posted Julie-Ann, I would have picked it for glass

It is a very close replica TTD- it just doesn't have the depth of glass. If that makes sense. It is certainly worth getting a quote on if you are redoing your splashback.

The Metalline looks amazing! I really shouldn't be looking though...now I am wondering if I should have done that instead of my stainless steel splashback, LOL.
