Default Air Conditioning Ideal Temperature

What temperature do you set your reverse cycle air conditioning to in Summer? The power company here in Perth advertises that you should have it at 24 degrees all day - even when you are not home. We have ours set at 26 degrees. If I am ironing or running around then I set it 24 or 25. What temperature do you set your a/c at?

Our split aircon units are set between 26-28, any colder and i have to put a jumper on. My OH will have it set to 24 in his computer room and still be in his undies

At work we have a war over the controllers, the guys have it on 24, when thery leave it unattended i switch it to 26 or fan mode :P

Our BIL specialises in commercial a/c and he advised us to leave it at 19 degrees all year, just alternate between heat and cool. Having said that though we use our ducted heating in winter and that sits on 21.

My hubby is an air con man and ours is set to 25 meant to save power apparently.

We use a gas heater in winter and during summer I find if it is set lower than 24 it gets too cold, even if it is 40 degrees outside. So 24 is the number for us.

How interesting that there is such a variety. I would be frozen at 19c Eli.
Giggle_Smile I was wondering how much you save in dollars by turning it up 1 degrees. Any ideas?

Does it save more power than setting it to 26?

When I was renting I had the aircon set at 25 in summer & 20 in winter & would only run it on days were it was really hot or really cold as I'm a big believer in putting on a jumper in winter before turning on heating. When working in an office set at 22 I would freeze if I wasn't wearing 2 cardigans!

But now I don't have aircon & my west facing kitchen with the exterior blind down is a lovely temperature right now, I can highly recommend them as a way of keeping rooms with large glass windows cool.

Something I don't like about aircon running all the time is the noise, I can hear a unit 2 houses away every night even though my windows are closed

Taken from the save power website

"Air conditioners account for 40 per cent of the electricity used by NSW households during the summer. Air conditioning can cost the average home around $265 a year to run, compared with just $20 per year to operate six ceiling fans.

If you just can't live without your air conditioner, there are other ways to cut your summer power use.

Cool, not icy, is best - keep rooms you are using at a comfortable 23-26°C. By raising the temperature setting on your air conditioner by just one degree, you can drop your power use by up to 10 per cent."

I suppose raising it to 26 would save more power yet again
