Default Accent Colour in Study

A few weeks ago I added some green boxes and magazine holders to Mr18's study. I am really pleased with the result. I think the green gives it the punch of colour that it needed. Plus I have more room for storing magazines - which is very important in my life. If the rug had been a bright white and black I think we could have just done black and white. But it didn't give enough oomph to the room with it being cream and black.
Sorry it's taking so long to get the pictures to you. I had to wait until Mr18 finished exams so I could clean up enough to take a picture

The green also picks up the outside garden and indoor plant nicely.

Julie-Ann, can you please let me know what the "board" is in the last photo?

It is a piece of black painted glass. It was Dmplus3's brilliant idea. You use a liquid chalk pen and it is like a white board. DH & DS had plans of sticking sheets of A4 paper over the walls with notes. I was totally freaking out. And then Dmplus3 suggested this. It cost about $400 to have it supplied and installed.
Although the naughty child rarely uses it.

A-ha - I suspected that's what it was. You have just given me a brilliant idea.

In my kitchen I have a niche area to be used as a notice board. I hadn't quite worked out whether I was going to have a pin up board or white board, but I think the glass is the ideal solution.

I have a lovely glass colour that I was originally intending to use as a splashback, but have now decided to use white tiles, so I will get to use the glass after all.

Kind of running with your mixing styles idea? Mostly traditional with a hint of contemporary.

Only problem is how to stick the notes to it. That's the benefit of a whiteboard, I could use magnets. Anyone know a way to magnetise glass?

Happy happy. (You need a hand-clapping smilie!)

Well you can thank Dmplus3 for the brilliant idea.
What colour are you planning on using? I went and saw the chaps at Viridan glass in McCoy St Myaree. We discussed all the options. He showed me samples to choose from. You could ask him if there is a way to make it magnetic. I can't see how. Even if you used magnetic paint it is on the back of the glass. But I just went and checked and Post It Notes stick beautifully

Love, love, love the black whiteboard. It looks fantastic - gee, I'm so clever

Tell Mr18 if he doesn't use it enough, I am happy to take it off his hands, he'll just have to get it to me!

Oh, and I think the green accents are fantastic. I totally agree that they bring the garden inside. What a lovely workspace. Might have to take some inspiration for my new study...

Well done DMPlus 3.

The colour I have is called minted gold, which sounds quite gross really but it's a taupe colour with a greenish tinge.

I'll just have to blu-tac up the school notes.

Cherylle, is it a recessed niche? Perhaps you could mount the glass on the wall of the niche, and then hang a couple of bulldog clips on nails in the walls where the wall recesses? Or you could make the glass a bit shorter and have a piece of cork or magnetic strip installed along the top, to hang the notes from.

The clear glass whiteboards that we have (just from Officeworks), actually have a strip of cork along the bottom, which is a great addition!

The green hints are just what that room needed. And I love how it brings the outside in.

Next question though, is how do you get him to keep it so tidy! Our study is permanently a mess, no one seems to know how to put anything away.

Love your work J-A, very nice.
