Default 8th Birthday Party

Lochs is turning 8 on tuesday. I always take the day off, and give him the day off school/childcare etc. This year A has the day off too.

We are going to do the family thing.. play laserforce etc.

BUT.. he has asked to have a party/kids from school. We negoiated (as one does with lochs) and we have agreed two boys from his class (twins) and their lil sister coming over for a play after school on Thursday.

I have spoken to their mum and said no presents required.. not a big deal etc. I am sure the kids will play happily enough. We really dont have an outdoor space and it is predicting rain anyway .... but there is plenty to do inside

Other boys have no allergies..phew.

Just wondering what you guys think.. re decos and food etc... keep it simple stupid would be the name of the game here. packet opening preferred

I was debating some Sausage rolls (gourmet jamie oliver ones)...for the big and small people. .. nice on a rainy afternoon?

Or should i get more upmarket afternoon tea treats and add in some fruit/popcorn/snacks and cake etc for the kids? There is no theme or style ... i may have to come up with one to have some focus!

I dont find dinner for 25 this hard! What would you guys look at doing?

Best wishes to Lochie for his birthday.

I'm with you on keeping it simple. While it is Lochie's birthday, it's not really a full on party as such so I think the sausage rolls and/or some mini quiches would be lovely.

You will also need something for the kids to nibble on, and don't forget, adults love kids' party food. Why not some fairy bread, chocolate crackles and some sliced fruits or similar?

Now, I am drooling and wanting some Chocolate Crackles.

Thanks di.

I have to say I am slightly overwhlemed this year ..post break in/I'd theft / work is busy! And now the car drama,... A big kid party is just more than I can take on but I want to celebrate him. I just don't know when the thing became HUGE parties...

I was debating gettin a magician to come and teach the kids some magic tricks ...but think they can entertain themselves. Lochs is a lil Into magic tricks Right now so he may love it ..

I was more worried about getting the food right and entertaining a parent I haven't met.

Chocolate crackles could be good! An old fav! I made Donna hay brownies for a fathers day picnic today (packet) they could be good for kids young and older ..

Table decoration suggestions welcome!!

So the only guests will be the Mum and the 3 kids? And what time of the day are they coming over Lanne?
We can definitely come up with some ideas.

Are you okay with something unhealthy? Does he have a sweet tooth? Perhaps a chocolate feast for afternoon tea. Can he eat chocolate?

He can eat chocolate

I am looking through pinterest and Donna hay.

He looooves popcorn and I can see some popcorn cupcakes (red and white striped cupcake wrapper with white frosting and mini white marshmallows to make the 'popcorn' ... I think cupcakes are the way to go with a smaller party,

I can do some popcorn.. And some lollies etc for the kids ...

I thought I might also do a simplified high tea... Maybe lamingtons, mini sandwiches and a selection of treats... The kids could eat them too and I will cover a selection to ensure the other mother has something she likes.

Would that work?

I was thinking of an high tea that full of kids favourites.
Your cupcakes sound great. What about a circus theme? I saw on FB you are looking for an indoor cubby for Lochie - great idea. What if you could find a circus tent like this and do a circus themed party?

I like a theme for a birthday party

Love it,,,

He has akrad had a circus party tho We usually have a party and a theme)

I thought a full on theme made it less casual.. so I was avoiding one but decorating is hard without one!

I agree a theme makes it so much easier. So let's pick a theme. Apart from Magic is he into anything else?
