I wanted to show you this because not only is a fantastic use of space in the kitchen but because I am getting more and more clients not wanting a large walk in pantry. The pantry seems to becoming more apart of the kitchen cabinetry. There are the pull out style pantries or the type with individual pull out shelves and then these.
This is by a company in the UK- they seem to call pantries "larders" over there. But what's in a name. This really maximises every centremetre of your kitchen space. Plus with this design it is easier to see more of the items stacked away.

Have you seen this style of pantry before?
Do you prefer a walk in type pantry or when it is another cabinet in the kitchen?

Personally I love my large walk in pantry. I can store so much in there.:)

This is very cool, but still prefer my Butlers Pantry, I can fit anything and everything in there, prep all my cooking as I have benches and a sink, and my fridge is also hidden away inside the Pantry as well. But this kind of pantry would definatly be suited to smaller housing.

My last kitchen had the pantry as a cabinet as part of my galley and it was in 2 sections...this time I am back to having a walk in. I have to say I love the openness and the amount of space but I also like only opening 1 section of pantry and seeing 1 lot of items rather than a whole cupboard full of too many things to look at....
I think with so many ways to utilise space these days its really just a way of getting everything into that one area. I see more and more people using sculleries or butlers pantries also and having smaller kitchen areas. I suppose they are just oversized walk ins.;)

I love butlers pantries- so incredibly practical. And the benefit of hiding everything is fantastic. I would definitely go that way myself. It has surprised me the number of clients wanting these smaller pantries and not in small homes either:confused:. Maybe it is just different age groups and lifestyles.
But if you are going to have a small pantry why not add these shelves to the doors. You can buy wire rack type shelves to fit to the doors in an identical way. After all you can never have enough storage:D.

YOu know the other reason this is perfect because you never really use the full width of your shelf because then you can't see everything unless you have one of those cool stackers from HSW.;)
So this way you get to use twice the amount of shelf...very cool.:D I think their would have to be some sort of breather for the microwarve though.

Yes I think they have put the microwave in just for show. It would not be wise to install it like that:eek:.

I was just thinking about this today, as I stood gazing at my feral walk-in pantry - I'm so psychic! My thought was that I would like a couple of double-doored pantries, one at each end of the kitchen to break up the cabinetry a bit, in our next house (whenever that is!). The picture would suit me perfectly in a galley style kitchen.

The alternative would be a Butler's Pantry (my absolute dream), but with straight shelving along one wall rather than L-shaped like my walk-in.

One of the biggest problems I have with my walk-in is the 'stuff' that ac***ulates on the floor, it turns into a bit of a dumping ground.

I really should clear it out (a la the Spring Cleaning list) and install some storage apparatus, I know, I know...

So does this mean we have inspired you to clean the pantry floor or just made you feel guilty:D:D?

Oh wow! How cool and organised is that? I am not sure I could handle it being so neat LOL.

I am going for a sink in my walk-through pantry next time. I saw it in a display home last weekend - heaven!

Ummmmmm.... A bit of Column A and a bit of Column B. I figure the mess on the pantry floor is better than it being spread randomly throughout the house? What I really need is a mud room!

I love the idea of a Butler's pantry. But instead of shelves like I have seen in display homes I would like to have tall cupboards so when you enter the Butler's pantry you don't see the food and everything is hidden. But on the opposite side of the cupboards I would have a benchtop.

I have a walk in pantry and love it :) I keep everything in there, food, cups, glasses, tea/coffee, picnic baskets, small appliances, recycling bin etc etc. I have a window and the shelf underneath holds the toaster, jug, sandwich press and milkshake maker. I extended the shelving on both walls to the ceiling and *might* one day put cupboards with doors on the opposite wall. Baskets underneath hold my recipe books and magazines. I didn't want a sink but do wish I had of thought of putting in plumbing for a 2nd dishwasher.

Aaah I have a HUGE walk in pantry similar to Trying to Decorate's. I absolutely love it! I'll take some photos as soon as I've got it sorted out, right now it seems to be the dumping ground for 'stuff' that has no other home

I finally got around to taking photos of the pantry and located the camera cable so I am now able to share a photo :)

It's huge Kim. Someone could live in there- and at least they wouldn't starve:D.
Well you won't be complaining ever about running out of space:D.

:D:D
I also love the carefully positioned floor sweeper Kim. Mine is in the exact same position. I bet you feel so organised in the very organised pantry.
I have to say I have seen smaller dry goods rooms in restaurant kitchens....
Its beautiful and spacious. Very nice.

I am excited to say that my new butlers pantry(yet to be built) is 3.8 meters long....and 1.5 across.... I have not decided if I should get built in cabinetry or just shelving as per attached pic (this is Ina Garten - Barefoot Contessa's Hampton pantry).

I would like a small shelf for all my paperwork bills and the like with a pin board hidden away for my eyes only.

I like the idea of a small area for your paperwork. Mine can take over (http://www.decoratingforum.com.au/showthread.php/kitchen-messinessi-317.html?highlight=clean+kitchen)(as seen here) my kitchen bench if I am not careful:D.
I really like Milena's idea to have doors to cover the shelves so it looks neater. I would put sliding doors. But I think any shelving in such a large space is going to be fantastic:)

Hi Lanne asked me to share these pictures with you. It is gorgeous:).
This is Lanne's description of the kitchen:
"This was DIVINE.... but it must have cost a fortune..
The main kitchen is shown below.. black back wall with intergrated fridge and freezer..
The bench has a sink (just cut off..). it was pretty big. The ovens were centered.. many people would be pleased to have that much kitchen!
The butlers pantry sat to the side (or back if you walked into the kitchen).
It was lovely!!! The cupboards and benches wrapped right around it was like a second kitchen!
I would change colours and style etc.. but in terms of room and space... it was to die for."

Thanks Julie-Ann

I would feel like I had my own cooking show in that kitchen LOL..

Julie-Ann - Do you think we could get a 'like' button for the forum, a la Facebook? I would be like, like, liking all of the pictures and ideas in this thread!

I am sooo getting a Butler's Pantry in our next house!!!

I have seen that first photo somewhere else before and not sure where but it looks stunning. Love the glass cupboards:)
dmplus3 funny you saying about like button. That is exactly what I said to Julie-Ann on the weekend I would like to have "like" button just like on facebook:D

For the like button.. maybe we can do the Thumbs up icon?
and similarly the thumbs down for dislike (ie kids drawing on tvs!)

The pictures were snapped on my iphone at a display home.. it is a metricon home if that helps.

What a coincidence that you would ask about the like button. I was lucky enough to have lunch with Milena and Elements on Monday and they suggested the same thing. Leave it with and I will consult the computer gurus about it:)

I think that's a great idea, Lanne, in the interim.

So often I just want to agree, or second a thought or picture, without actually adding anything more... Thank you for taking up the challenge, Julie-Ann.

PS: Obviously great minds think alike!
