Our member Lucia from More Than Curtains has written an article for us today that could help to put dollars in our pockets:)

Lucia's answer to rising Energy Bills:
"Well folks, The news is not good…we are going to be slugged wigth huge increases in energy costs! Not very surprising, given our increasing energy consumption!!! What to do? What to do?

Well for on thing, you can install quality fully lined curtains and pelmets and immediately reduce your energy costs by a minimum of 20%!! Curtains only have an initial outlay cost similar to the price of ducted airconditioning. Thereafter, NO ongoing costs(except cleaning on an infrequent basis) I think it’s a no-brainer!!! Forget cheap nasty blinds and ready made curains that dont really fit your windows anyway!! Under these cir***stances you would be crazy not to invest in top quality custom made drapes…the ecofriendly and pocket friendly option for yourhome.

Bully to you Mr Rudd…we’re beating your price hikes with curtains!!!!"

Lucia writes a fabulous blog giving us great advice on all elements regarding window treatments. To follow her blog visit Lucia here (http://morethancurtains.wordpress.com/)

The last bill we received was 16% higher than the last and we had actually used LESS energy, so we are doing everything we can at the moment to keep the bill down.

Lights are getting turned off, and appliances turned off at the wall. Our reptiles are getting less heat everyday and all of us have new ugg boots and quilts on the way so we dont have to use the heater so much.

We are looking into Solar at the moment for the new house so I wonder how much of a difference it will make.

I wrote an article last week of solar energy - this is definitley going into my 'next' house. The savings after 5 years are amazing! Just google solar and the information is enormous.
